Paty’s shocking death left an imprint on France, and several schools are now named after him. He referred to the teacher as a “thug” multiple times and sought to pressure the school administration via social media. Anzorov lived 100 kilometers (60 miles) from Paty’s school and did not know the teacher. Boudaoud also drove Anzorov to Paty’s school. On Oct. 13, 2023, another teacher in France was killed by a radical Islamist from Russia, originally from Ingushetia, a region bordering Chechnya.

Paris CNN —A French soldier deployed in the country’s anti-terrorism force was stabbed at a train station in central Paris on Monday evening, French government officials said, a little more than a week before the Paris 2024 Olympics’ opening ceremony is due to take place. “A soldier with Operation Sentinelle was stabbed while on patrol at Gare de l’Est in Paris. Operation Sentinelle is an anti-terrorism military operation that was established in the aftermath of the Charlie Hebdo terror attack in January 2015. France has increased its security measures around Paris ahead of the Olympics, which includes bolstering the Operation Sentinelle forces. “Our thoughts are with the soldier injured this evening at Gare de l’Est, who was deployed as part of Operation Sentinelle,” French Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu said on X.

A terrorist attack of 2015 that left her city angry and heartbroken persuaded Paris’s mayor, Anne Hidalgo, to campaign for the Olympic Games. “Something that is very powerful, very peaceful and allows us to move forward. So, I threw myself into it.”Nine years later, the Summer Olympics are set to open in Paris in July with France at its highest level of terrorism alert, after the attack on the Moscow concert hall last month. Yet for the first time, the opening ceremony will not be held inside the barricaded confines of a stadium. Instead, athletes will float in boats down the Seine River through the heart of the dense, ancient city before half a million spectators packed into stands and leaning out of windows.

Paris CNN —A French high school student is being sued by the government for falsely accusing her former principal of assaulting her after he made her remove her headscarf on school premises, the country’s prime minister said Wednesday. Last year France banned the abaya – a long, robe-like garment often worn by Muslim women – despite warnings its prohibition was discriminatory. The student refused and “looked to intimidate” the school principal by accusing him of having physically assaulted her while removing her headscarf, Attal said. Attal said that her accusations were shared on social media, leading to “unacceptable” death threats against the school principal. In 2022, lawmakers backed a ban on wearing the hijab and other “conspicuous religious symbols” in sports competitions.

PARIS (Reuters) -Six teenagers go on trial behind closed doors on Monday in connection with the beheading of French history teacher Samuel Paty in 2020, a murder that shocked the country. The teacher had shown his pupils caricatures of the Prophet Mohammad in a class on freedom of expression, angering some Muslim parents. A 13-year-old girl at the time allegedly told her parents that Paty had asked Muslim pupils to leave the room before showing the caricatures. They cannot be identified due to their age and entered court on Monday wearing hoodies to hide their faces. France has suffered a wave of attacks by Islamist militants in past years, including a gun rampage in 2015 in the offices of Charlie Hebdo, a satirical magazine that had published caricatures Paty showed in his class.

SAN FRANCISCO, Feb 3 (Reuters) - An Iranian government-backed hacking team allegedly stole and leaked private customer data belonging to French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, security researchers at Microsoft said on Friday. The caricatures were part of a media campaign that Charlie Hebdo said was intended to support anti-government protests in the Islamic nation. A press officer for Charlie Hebdo said the magazine had no comment on the matter "for the moment." loadingThe hack-and-leak targeting Charlie Hebdo was part of a wider digital influence operation with techniques matching previously identified activity linked to Iranian state-backed hacking teams, Microsoft researchers said in a report. Two accounts impersonating a Charlie Hebdo editor and a technology executive also posted the leaked data before Twitter banned them, Microsoft said.
