Researchers at Khalifa University in Abu Dhabi have developed a high-tech solution to searching huge, arid areas for potential archaeological sites. Traditionally, archaeologists use ground surveys to detect potential sites of interest, but that can be time-consuming and difficult in harsh terrains like the desert. “Once it was trained, it gave us an indication of other potential areas (nearby) that are still not excavated,” says Francis. Khalifa University isn’t alone in using artificial intelligence to detect potential sites. If archaeologists find the structures the algorithm has predicted, Dubai Culture plans to use the technology to unearth more sites.

Nine people are dead after a driver crashed into a canal Monday night in western Palm Beach County, officials said. Nine people were killed and one person was seriously injured after the sport utility vehicle they were traveling in veered off the road and overturned into a South Florida canal on Monday evening, the authorities said. Tommy Fleetwood ensured that Europe would triumph against the USA on a tense final day when he took the 16th hole of his singles match against Rickie Fowler. The excitement proved too much for some, including a spectator who was green-side for the all-important moment. The fan darted across the hole and made a beeline for the water hazard, removing – and then dropping – his cap before taking the plunge.
