Goldman Sachs announced its 2023 class of managing directors Thursday afternoon, giving 608 employees the coveted title. It's a smaller cohort than the bank's 2021 MD class, down 5% amid a dealmaking slowdown. Still, Goldman appears to have taken pains to promote employees in revenue-generating divisions like investment banking and trading. Goldman says the percentage of women it promoted as part of the 2023 MD class sets a record, up 1% from 2021. Two years ago, Goldman promoted the largest managing director class in its history, naming 643 employees to the designation in 2021.

Biles posted a total of 14.800 in the balance beam final for her impeccable routine ahead of China's Zhou Yaqin with 14.700. Brazilian Rebeca Andrade, who beat Biles on Saturday to gold in the women's vault, posted 14.300 for bronze. The American claimed her second gold of the day in the floor final with 14.633, 0.133 points ahead of second-placed Andrade. "I wasn't too worried about medal count or medal colour," Biles said. She also won gold on balance beam and floor exercise after clinching silver on vault.

Biles started the afternoon with a superb beam routine, oozing confidence throughout. Biles later took to the mat for her last appearance of a busy week, in the floor final. Although she stepped out of bounds midway through her highly difficult routine, Biles earned the day’s best score, 14.633 points. The American won the first of her five world all-around titles in 2013 at the age of 16 in Antwerp and has since become a household name after winning a record 25 worlds medals -- which includes a jaw-dropping 19 golds. At 26, she will become not only the oldest American woman to compete at the worlds in over half a century but also the first woman to represent the U.S. at six artistic world championships when it kicks off on Saturday. The U.S., Britain and Canada's women secured team quota spots last year while China, Japan and Britain secured men's quotas. While the U.S. men are yet to secure qualification, the women are overwhelming favourites for top spot but Biles will have competition for the individual all-round gold. The 2022 all-around champion Rebeca Andrade of Brazil, Olympic silver medallist in Tokyo, is a serious contender as is Biles's 21-year-old compatriot Shilese Jones, who took the silver at the worlds last year.

Stock incentives are seen positively by the market "as higher stock prices directly boost such incentives," she said. Sony, which introduced stock incentives years ago for some management levels, recently changed its framework to make the incentives more attractive, a spokesperson said. "The stock incentives are aimed at beefing up engagement with employees and promoting their interest in raising corporate value." Today, employee stock incentives are also a way for companies to replace cross-shareholdings, a common practice where companies take stakes in partners to cement relationships and avoid activist investors. Despite its increasing popularity, just a quarter of top 100 Japanese companies have employee stock incentives compared to more than 80% in the United States or Germany, data by consulting firm Human Resources Governance Leaders shows.

Companies Nippon Steel Corp FollowTOKYO, Dec 22 (Reuters) - Japan's top steelmaker Nippon Steel Corp (5401.T) aims to join new raw material development projects to make reduced iron, using hydrogen, to meet the growing demand for green steel, its president said on Thursday. But the company will keep investing in coking coal mines to secure a key steel-making raw material as new development projects for the coal have been shrinking due to concerns over climate change, Nippon Steel President Eiji Hashimoto told a news conference. Reduced iron is produced from a process where oxygen is removed from the iron ore to make metallic iron without melting it.
