But the truth is, Hollywood loves influencers — and they're probably here to stay. AdvertisementAt the People's Choice Awards on Sunday, Billie Eilish inadvertently brought discourse about influencers at awards shows and on red carpets to a boiling point. Outrage — or minimally, discomfort — with influencers and TikTokers on red carpets and awards shows isn't new. But now, influencers have become even more entrenched in the celebrity world, cropping up frequently as guests, presenters, and content creators at awards shows and premiere events. If it didn't, awards shows wouldn't be inviting them.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — The U.S. Department of Justice has closed its review of the case of a drug suspect who was repeatedly punched, elbowed and kneed by police officers during a traffic stop in northeast Florida, officials said Friday. James Felte Jr., Justice Department criminal section chief, wrote in a letter to Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters that the arrest of Le’Keian Woods does not give rise to a prosecutable violation of federal civil rights laws. Mug shots taken after the arrest showed him with both eyes swollen shut and bruises and cuts on his face. Officers knew Woods had once been accused of murder, was on probation for armed robbery and had been connected to firearms and drug trafficking when they gave chase after a traffic stop, Waters said.

“The agency takes all allegations of inappropriate use of force by JSO officers seriously,” the sheriff's office said. The sheriff's office said it couldn't comment any further because the incident was being investigated. The video released by Woods' attorney, Harry Daniels, shows at least three officers on top of Woods, who is chest-down on grass besides a car. After he is handcuffed, Woods is propped up against an officer's legs, seemingly unable to sit up on his own. Online records show that Woods was being held in custody on Sunday on charges of armed traffic of methamphetamine, armed traffic of cocaine, armed possession of a controlled substance, resisting an officer with violence and violation of probation, among other charges.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — Varshan Brown was charged with murder and taken to trial after sheriff's deputies fatally shot his cousin in a violent drug raid at Brown's southeast Georgia home. But jurors concluded the death of his cousin, Latoya James, wasn't Brown's fault. James was killed May 4, 2021, after deputies with a search warrant for drugs came to Brown's darkened home at about 5 a.m. Body camera video released prior to the trial showed deputies announcing themselves and then immediately forcing their way inside. He was the only deputy equipped with a body camera during the raid, Higgins said.

Three former Georgia sheriff's deputies were arrested and charged for allegedly beating a Black inmate in a videotaped September attack that "shocked the conscience," authorities said Tuesday. They had already been fired by the Camden County Sheriff’s Office prior to their arrests. The arrests come a week after attorneys for inmate Jarrett Hobbs released several videos showing deputies allegedly beating him on Sept. 3 at the Camden County Jail in Woodbine. The videos showed the deputies appearing to punch Hobbs, drag him from his cell, slam him against a wall, and kick him repeatedly. The incident led to the sheriff's office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation launching separate investigations.
