Major Asian chip stocks outside of China rose Tuesday, shrugging off a new round of U.S. semiconductor export curbs aimed at impairing Beijing's capability to produce certain high-end chips. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company — the world's largest contract chip supplier — saw shares rise 2.4%. The Biden administration's latest chip curbs will also target sales of high-bandwidth memory chips, which could affect the world's two largest memory chip makers — South Korea's SK Hynix and Samsung. Naura Technology Group , Piotech and ACM Research were among the largest Chinese companies to be included in the export controls list. The latest export restrictions include a new "red flag guidance" to address compliance concerns, and several "critical regulatory changes" to enhance the effectiveness of existing controls.

I do think that seeing a woman on the ballot will, hopefully, encourage more women to vote, even if they don't vote for Harris. At the time, I thought it was going to be a landslide, like 'We're about to have our first woman president.' I don't think everybody in the U.S. will ever be ready for a woman president, but I don't think everybody in the U.S. was ready for a Black president either. Even if Kamala wins, I don't think everybody in the U.S. is ready for a woman president, just like they weren't ready for a Black president. I think Harris is just bringing a lot of new people into the process who haven't necessarily felt included before.

AdvertisementThe US's efforts to produce more semiconductor chips have encountered some challenges over the past few years, but the tide may be turning. In 2022, President Joe Biden signed the CHIPS Act into law, which included $39 billion in manufacturing incentives for chip production in the US. Last year, TSMC announced that the official opening of its first Arizona fab would be pushed back from 2024 to 2025. TSMC's production of Apple chips is good news for Americans hoping to land jobs in the industry, Patel said. He said he thinks TSMC's production of Apple chips would bode well for the future.

Former President Donald Trump and GOP Presidential Nominee speaking at the New York Economic Club in New York on Sept. 5, 2024. He added that Musk could be a "good one" to lead the commission "if he has the time." Hughes added that details on how the efficiency commission would be staffed and operated are yet to come. But Musk has repeatedly raised his hand to helm such a commission: "I look forward to serving America if the opportunity arises. The government efficiency commission plan also gives Trump a concrete proposal to attach to his attacks on what he sees as frivolous spending in the Biden-Harris administration.

U.S. Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris speaks at her campaign headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware, on July 22, 2024. Vice President Kamala Harris is catching up to former President Donald Trump on the number of voters who trust her handling of the economy, according to a new Financial Times/Michigan Ross poll. The monthly survey found that 42% of voters trust Harris on economic issues, one percentage point more than the Republican presidential nominee. The most recent CNBC All-America Economic Survey, for example, found voters think they will be financially better off under Trump than Harris by a 2-to-1 margin. Trump often seizes on voters' economic pessimism as a political tactic, working to turn economic danger signs into narratives of full-blown catastrophe, attributable to the Biden-Harris administration's policies.

Smarter grids, like Chattanooga's, are just part of what it will take to modernize the American grid in the coming decades. A troubled transition to renewable energyOffshore wind farms are one of the growing areas of renewable energy. And the Edwards & Sanborn project, the US's largest solar energy and energy storage project in California, came online in January. Renewable energy is not only cleaner than fossil fuels but also often less expensive. Breaking down barriersThe US grid isn't designed for fluctuating renewable energy, so much of it goes to waste because clean-energy projects can't connect to the grid.

It's a result of an account adjustment for borrowers who made the required 20 or 25 years of payments. AdvertisementGeorge Tucker thought he would be resuming student-loan payments alongside millions of other borrowers this fall. Tucker, 63, owed just under $50,000 on his student loans when the more than three-year pause on federal payments ended in October, per documents reviewed by Insider. Although PSLF was intended to forgive student debt after ten years of qualifying payments, Tucker said paperwork challenges with the program threw him off track, and he was not anticipating debt relief. George Tucker got $50,000 in student debt wiped out.

Electric-vehicle charging stations provider ChargePoint could make a massive recovery, according to UBS. He assigned a price target of $9, implying shares could gain 85.6% from Tuesday's closing price. UBS said the worsened sentiment around ChargePoint has created an "attractive risk/reward" profile for investors. The company has 33,000 charging stations, UBS noted. "This charging type leverages dwell times of cars and are therefore deployed in settings where EVs will be parked for several hours."

The Education Department announced its latest step in the broad student-debt relief process. After the Supreme Court struck down Biden's first plan to cancel student debt broadly for borrowers using the HEROES Act of 2003, his Education Department announced it would be attempting relief using a different law: the Higher Education Act of 1965. "When the Supreme Court ruled against the Biden-Harris Administration's student debt relief plan, we did not waste a moment opening up a new pathway to debt relief," Education Secretary Miguel Cardona said in a statement. Since borrowers will not be entering repayment with broad relief, the department also announced a 12-month "on-ramp" period during which missed payments will not be reported to credit agencies, but interest will still accrue during that time. However, while the department is moving forward with the broad debt relief process, its future is uncertain due to conservative opposition — and potential legal challenges that could once again halt relief for borrowers.

WASHINGTON — The Treasury Department on Wednesday announced that billions of dollars slated for investments in clean energy, electric vehicles and batteries under the Inflation Reduction Act will go to relatively underserved communities throughout the country. The announcement comes as the IRA, the Biden administration's landmark law targeting manufacturing, infrastructure and climate change, turns one year old. The more than $500 billion in announced investments, $200 billion of which is in the clean energy sector, is a key goal of the legislation, according to the Treasury. A senior Treasury official told reporters on Wednesday that the agency is also seeing meaningful private investment in the efforts. He also contended it would benefit the Chinese Communist Party, as the U.S. relies on Chinese imports of key inputs for clean energy technology.

April 11 (Reuters) - U.S. officials on Tuesday gave final approval for a company owned by billionaire Philip Anschutz to begin building a massive transmission line that will deliver wind energy from blustery Wyoming to power-hungry California. The "notice to proceed" from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management allows TransWest Express LLC to break ground on its $3 billion line after more than 15 years of development. A separate Anschutz firm owns the 600-turbine Chokecherry and Sierra Madre wind farm in Wyoming, which is being built, that will send power through TransWest Express. TransWest Express construction will start later this year and the first stage will be completed in 2027, the company said. The line will run from south central Wyoming, through Colorado, Utah and Nevada to a substation outside of Las Vegas.
WASHINGTON, April 6 (Reuters) - U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris on Thursday takes the Biden administration's jobs agenda to a right-wing Georgia congressional district represented by Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, an avid supporter of former President Donald Trump. Harris is announcing a further expansion, including an order for 2.5 million new solar panels involving Summit Ridge Energy, according to administration officials. But Dalton is the seat of a county where Trump won 2.4 votes for every one for Biden. "Instead, congressional Republicans want to roll back this progress and put investments in manufacturing, clean energy and good jobs at risk." Georgia is expected to again be one of the most contested states in the 2024 presidential election that may pit Biden against Trump once again.
