Deloitte in May had pointed to certain transactions flagged by the U.S. short-seller in its report and gave only a qualified opinion, which indicates concerns by a company's auditor. Deloitte's resignation comes after it asked Adani Ports to conduct an independent inquiry on related party transactions flagged by Hindenburg, to which the company did not agree, the source said. Deloitte and Adani Ports did not immediately respond to Reuters' requests for comments. Deloitte's decision to quit as Adani Ports' auditor might come as soon as Monday, the source added.

The Gurugram president of Jamiat-Ulema-e-Hind (Council of Indian Muslim Theologians) Mufti Mohammed Salim estimated that more than 3,000 Muslims had left the district after the violence. "Many Muslims decided it's best to leave for a while," said Sheikh, adding that some Hindu owners of shops rented out to Muslims wanted them to vacate. "No one is asking them to leave and we are providing full security in all communally sensitive areas," he told Reuters. Seven people were killed and over 70 injured in rioting in Nuh and Gurugram districts of Haryana state after a Hindu religious procession was targeted and a mosque attacked in retaliation. Gurugram, formerly known as Gurgaon, is a city of over 1.5 million people that shares a border with New Delhi. "Muslim men attacked the Hindu procession and killed many of our people," said Praveen Babbar, a leader of Hindu Yuva Vahini (Hindu Youth Force). Haryana Police, however, said they acted swiftly and prevented riots from spreading, and that two of its men were killed in the violence. Security forces were also on alert for planned protests by Hindu nationalist groups, including in the capital Delhi. However in 2020, over 50 people were killed in religious clashes in northeastern Delhi, the worst sectarian violence in the capital in decades.
