The U.S. presidential election is fast approaching, but it may not have as much an impact on markets as people may think, some investors say. History suggests the strong performance bodes well for a post-election pop into year's end. When Trump was elected in the 2016 presidential election, investors expected energy would perform well — but the subsequent two years proved unfavorable for the sector. During the 2000 election, volatility lasted for more than 30 days, through December. "We encourage investors to keep their long-term objectives in mind during periods of uncertainty and position for election related volatility," Guerra wrote.

Jordan Vonderhaar for BIIn late July, after Biden dropped out of the race, I traveled to Starr County to see why this longtime Democratic stronghold has been shifting steadily to the right. Like the mesquite and huisache that thrive in this arid climate, he has deep roots in Starr County. If any place embodies the dual identity among Latinos in Starr County, it's the Rancho Cafe in the tiny town of Roma. The Rancho Cafe — part Old West saloon, part Tex-Mex hangout — embodies the dual identity of local Latinos. The filibusterThere's an under-the-radar issue keeping portfolio managers up at night: the elimination of the filibuster, according to Kelly's conversations with clients. Wall Street analysts expect a very close election, and even a minute change could be enough to push the needle on the outcome for either candidate. Given how important gridlock is to the market, there's not enough conversation around the impacts of eliminating the filibuster, Kelly believes.

When Scarlett Johansson announced in June of 2022 that she was launching a skincare line, I wasn't just skeptical; I was confused. However, Scarlett Johansson's skincare label, The Outset, was one career move I didn't see coming, despite the fact the Marvel actor has an undeniably glowing complexion. So, you can imagine my surprise when it proved to be one of the best skincare brands I've tried in my eight years of testing and reporting on all things beauty. A close-up of The Outset Restorative Niacinamide Night Cream texture. About four years ago, when my landlord bought the property, I was his very first tenant. Before the pandemic, I had been in the market for quite a long time looking to buy a house. When I signed that first rental lease with my landlord in May 2020, I completely pulled myself out of the market. After being bummed about that, a few days later my landlord texted me saying, "Hey, I'm putting this house on the market. He shared with me that he bought his own place and that he was no longer going to be living in that house.

ROME (AP) — Rome prosecutors asked a judge Thursday to effectively close an investigation into Italian and U.N. health officials over Italy’s 2020 Covid-19 response without charges, on the grounds that no crimes were committed, a lawyer said. Already prosecutors had closed their case without filing charges against three of Italy’s past health ministers. Guerra had been the former head of the department of prevention in the Italian health ministry until 2017 and was a WHO envoy to Italy during the pandemic. De Vita said prosecutors determined the pandemic plan was in the process of being updated. He welcomed the decision to archive the case, saying it should have been closed two years ago as soon as Guerra provided documentation to prosecutors showing he had acted correctly.

The relaxed sanctions could lead to $1.4 billion in additional income for Venezuela over the next six months, analyst firm Sintesis Financiera said in a report. The additional oil income is expected to arrive gradually, partly though the redirection of exports. "The contribution will go to social spending and services." The government has traditionally increased social spending, public sector salaries, food distribution and housing construction projects ahead of elections, though national income has been limited over the last five years because of the sanctions and problems at PDVSA. Public spending has fallen to 15% of gross domestic product from 40% a decade ago, according to economic analysts.

For over a decade, this county had arrested and illegally jailed hundreds, maybe thousands, of children. The answer would lead back to a powerful judge, the jailer she appointed and a county that treated this astronomical number of arrests as normal. From Serial Productions and The New York Times, “The Kids of Rutherford County” is a four-part narrative series reported and hosted by Meribah Knight, a Peabody-award winning reporter based in the South.
