CNN —A rare letter signed by three of the founding fathers of the United States is going on sale, and is expected to fetch up to $1 million when it goes under the hammer next week. “An important expression of the emerging American policy of free trade, likely the only available example of any letter signed by all three of these Founding Fathers, the men most responsible for the Declaration of Independence,” said Bonhams in a listing on its website. Bidding starts at $550,000, and the letter is expected to fetch up to $1 million when it goes under the hammer on November 12. Objects and artifacts linked to the founding fathers often prove popular at auction, attracting astronomical bids. In 2017, manuscripts, personal letters and hundreds of other documents from founding father Alexander Hamilton’s desk sold for a total of $2.6 million at Sotheby’s in New York, according to the auction house.

The Many Links Between Project 2025 and Trump’s WorldFormer president Donald J. Trump has repeatedly claimed that he had nothing to do with Project 2025, the Heritage Foundation’s conservative policy initiative to reshape the federal government. But Project 2025 has numerous ties to Mr. Trump and his campaign, a New York Times analysis has found. L. ZorcJump to the full list of authors, editors and contributorsSpokespeople for Project 2025 have denied that they are advocates for any particular candidate, and Project 2025 has no official ties to the Trump campaign. To limit the appearance of connection, Mr. Trump’s transition team has been excluding prominent people linked to Project 2025 from its preparations. Project 2025 additionally calls for the dismantling of the federal Education Department, which Mr. Trump has also pledged to do.

CNN —Alderney, a quiet British island in the English Channel known for its outstanding natural beauty, was once the site of the only Nazi camps on British soil – and a hell on Earth for its thousands of inmates. Stretching for three square miles, the island was occupied by the Nazis for most of World War II. According to Pickles, the lack of records has led to unsubstantiated claims being made about Alderney and the war crimes that took place there. “Prisoners were treated appallingly, and life was cheap, but Alderney did not house a ‘mini-Auschwitz’; there was no extermination centre on the island,” Pickles said. Pickles, meanwhile, said the fact that the perpetrators never faced British justice is a “stain on the reputations of successive British governments.”

The South African Heritage Resources Agency is seeking to prevent an auction of dozens of Nelson Mandela’s personal belongings, saying on Thursday that it has filed court papers to appeal a ruling that had allowed the sale of the items to go forward. Guernsey’s auction house in New York said this week that it planned to auction about 70 of Mr. Mandela’s items on Feb. 22 as part of a fund-raising effort to support the establishment of a memorial garden near where Mr. Mandela, the former South African president, is buried. South African officials had blocked an earlier effort to sell the items on the grounds that some of them are objects of national heritage. But the organizers of the planned sale, led by Mr. Mandela’s oldest daughter, Dr. Makaziwe Mandela, won a court judgment last month. In its ruling, a three-judge panel of the High Court in Pretoria found that the government’s claim to the items as heritage objects was “overbroad.”

And because growing seaweed doesn’t need land or require irrigation, it could be more sustainable than traditional agriculture. Seaweed jamIf you’re looking to take your breakfast ideas in a new direction, then seaweed could be the way to go. But seaweed soup isn’t only consumed in Asia. In cooperation with Guernsey Dairy, the UK-based Seaweed Food Company has experimented with using algae in dairy products. She believes that these inventive dishes will bust people’s misconceptions of seaweed as “slimy and a bit smelly.”

CNN —A player for the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles who was accused of raping and kidnapping a woman in 2019 has been acquitted of the charges, according to documents filed in Guernsey County Court in Ohio. Offensive lineman Josh Sills had been indicted by a grand jury on January 31 and was placed on the NFL’s commissioner exempt list, preventing him from practicing, playing or travel with the team. “We are aware that the legal matter involving Josh Sills has been adjudicated and he was found not guilty,” the team said. Sills’ lawyer, Michael Connick, said the acquittal “ends a nearly four-year nightmare for the Sills family, and particularly Josh,” according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. CNN has reached out to Sills’ legal representation for further comment.

Forensic evidence from a bullet-damaged wall sheds light on the Nazi occupation of a British island. Feb 1 (Reuters) - Rookie offensive lineman Josh Sills of the Super Bowl-bound Philadelphia Eagles has been indicted on rape and kidnapping charges, Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost announced on Wednesday. The 25-year-old Sills was indicted by a Guernsey County Common Pleas Court grand jury on one count of rape and one count of kidnapping, both first-degree felonies. The crime was immediately reported, and the Guernsey County Sheriff's Office conducted an investigation. The Eagles did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the team or Sills. Sills has been issued a summons to appear in Guernsey County Common Pleas Court on Feb. 16, four days after the Eagles are scheduled to face the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl in Glendale, Arizona.
Seven acres of Nazi trenches in the Channel Islands are up for sale for about £40,000 ($50,000). The heavily-fortified site was home to 24 soldiers and 3 Nazi officers in the Second World War. The Channel Islands were the only British territory to be occupied during the conflict. The Channel Islands of Jersey and Guernsey, just off the coast of France, were the only British territory to be occupied during the Second World War. Hitler heavily fortified the Channel Islands between 1942 and 1944 as part of his "Atlantic Wall" strategy — a system of coastal defenses intended to block an anticipated Allied invasion of Nazi-occupied Europe.
The frozen Russian assets were 6 billion pounds more than the amount reported across all other British sanctions regimes. It does not include physical assets such as real estate or assets held in Crown Dependencies such as Guernsey and Jersey. The European Union, a 27-nation bloc with an economy five times larger, said in July it had frozen 13.8 billion euros ($13.83 billion) of Russian assets over the war in Ukraine. While Russian assets are currently only frozen, there are discussions on what options are available to seize them. In the first test of Britain's approach to enforcing sanctions, Russian billionaire Petr Aven is challenging in a London court allegations that he evaded sanctions.
Senate hopefuls JD Vance and Tim Ryan are making their closing pitches to Ohio voters. Some Buckeye State Republicans give Democrat Ryan points for his fighting spirit. Ohio Senate hopeful JD Vance mingles with local Republicans during Ohio GOP's bus tour stop in Zanesville, Ohio. She can't say the same for Vance, who Drenan claims waffled about abortion in his final debate with Ryan. "That's how dissatisfied I am with Republicans right now."
GOP Senate hopeful JD Vance is racing across Ohio ahead of the midterms. A Trump fan at a recent rally criticized Vance for moving on from the 2020 election challenges. Vance and Ohio's GOP leaders are pushing election deniers aside, but Trump's base won't budge. "I think it was stolen," Drenan told Insider about the last election. But we've moved on," Fawcett told Insider at the Zanesville rally.
