Nvidia is the clear pick amid the hype around companies in the artificial intelligence space, according to Tim Seymour, founder and chief investment officer of Seymour Asset Management. Conceptually, Nvidia is the "AI buy" in terms of its software and hardware capabilities, he said Thursday on CNBC's "Fast Money." To be sure, other "Fast Money" traders aren't as bullish on current AI candidates. "Today's selloff makes a lot of sense," Private Advisor Group's Guy Adami said, referring to the fall in Microsoft shares. When asked to consider Microsoft and Alphabet , investor and "Fast Money" panelist Bonawyn Eison picked Microsoft for safety and Alphabet for the long term, saying he thinks the Google parent stands to gain more upside.
There's nothing like a formerly unprofitable company surprising investors with good news. In Palantir's case, the company's first ever positive quarter of net income on a GAAP basis helped the stock rally 21% Tuesday. The food company had a $7 million net income loss in the 2021 fiscal year. The healthcare-apparel retailer had a $9.6 million net income loss in its prior fiscal year but is expected to pull in $21.6 million in net income in its latest fiscal year. Lastly, Snowflake saw a huge net income loss of $679.9 million in 2021, but is expecting to post a $75.9 million net income gain in 2022.
Palantir Technologies is a promising trade for the first time in a while, according to Private Advisor Group's Guy Adami. Analysts called for earnings of 3 cents per share on revenues of $502 million, according to Refinitiv. It also marked the company's first quarter of positive net income on a generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) basis. "In an environment where what they're working on is seemingly front and center in everybody's lexicon — I think Palantir for the first time in a long time, is actually tradeable," Adami said Monday on CNBC's " Fast Money ." Adami added that he could see Palantir becoming "an M & A play."
That showed activist investor Nelson Peltz may not be needed at Disney, said Steve Grasso, CEO of Grasso Global on CNBC's " Fast Money " Wednesday evening. "And with him there … you don't need Nelson Peltz. If he was not there, then you need Nelson Peltz in the room." Metropolitan Capital Advisors' Karen Finerman also said on "Fast Money" that the message to Disney shareholders was clear. Other top traders on "Fast Money" disagreed, saying the company will continue to face challenges.
