Last month, Google Cloud engineer Eddie Hatfield interrupted a keynote speech from the managing director of Google's Israel business stating, "I refuse to build technology that powers genocide." That same week, an internal Google employee message board was shut down after staffers posted comments about the company's Israeli military contracts. The Israeli Ministry of Defense reportedly sought consulting services from Google to expand its access to Google Cloud services. "A small number of employee protesters entered and disrupted a few of our locations," a Google spokesperson told CNBC Wednesday evening.

Nine Google workers were arrested on trespassing charges Tuesday night after staging a sit-in at the company's offices in New York and Sunnyvale, California, including a protest in Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian's office. Anderson had flown to Sunnyvale for the protest in Kurian's office and was one of the workers arrested Tuesday. Technology companies from Google to Apple and Amazon are in a race to control carmakers' dashboards as software becomes an integral part of car design. Carmakers including General Motors, Renault, Nissan and Ford use embedded Google technology via a Google Automotive Services (GAS) package, offering features like Google Maps, Google Assistant and other applications, while others are integrating only a portion of Google's services into their cars. Google-parent Alphabet posted strong second-quarter numbers that had many Wall Street analysts gushing. Goldman Sachs analyst Eric Sheridan reaffirmed a buy rating on Alphabet stock, with his $152 price target implying more than 24% upside. Citi's Ronald Josey maintained a buy rating on with a higher $153 price target, which amounts to more than 25% upside for Alphabet stock. "As revenue growth reaccelerates on an improving online advertising environment and management's greater focus on operating efficiencies, we look for margins to expand going forward as revenue growth consistently outpaces opex growth," Josey said. Wells Fargo analyst Ken Gawrelski reiterated an equal weight rating on Alphabet stock on Wednesday, although with an increased $121 per share price target.

Twitter previously hired a law firm to force Elon Musk to complete the buyout of the company. The law firm, Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, hit Twitter with a $90 million bill for its services. According to the suit, $84 million was wired to the law firm minutes before the deal closed. On Twitter, Musk accused Wachtell of specializing "in institutionalized corruption." Since he acquired the company, Musk has refused to pay expenses for some former employees, rent for the company's offices, and, previously, invoices for Google Cloud services.

Elon Musk announced limits to how many tweets Twitter users could view to combat data scraping. "To address extreme levels of data scraping & system manipulation, we've applied the following temporary limits," Musk announced on Twitter in the first of a series of tweets about the decision. Throughout the day, Musk continued posting about the rate limits, increasing the number of posts users could view each time. As Twitter users scrolled through the site, once they reached the new viewing limits, no new content would be displayed. "Futzing with rate limits is probably the easiest way to break Twitter."

Twitter is currently losing about $3 million a day "with all spending and revenue considered," according to an internal document reviewed by Reuters. The social media platform is exploring whether to cut extra server space that is kept to ensure Twitter can handle high traffic, one source said. The second source described the proposed cuts as "delusional," adding that when user traffic kicks up, the service can fail "in spectacular ways." Teams across Twitter are racing to present a plan to achieve the cost savings by a Nov. 7 deadline, according to one of the sources and the Slack message. Some employees have been ordered to work in the office every day of the week to meet the deadline, the source said.
