Two New York Yankees fans were ejected from their right field seats during Game 4 of the World Series after ripping the ball out of Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts’ glove. Betts’ glove landed on top of the outfield wall as he caught the ball, and two fans sitting against the wall reached for the ball. One fan tried to take Betts’ glove off his left hand while the second fan swatted Betts’ right hand away. The first fan pried the ball out of Betts’ glove, but the ball fell onto the field. Fan interference was called on this play where a Yankee fan tried to take the ball out of Mookie Betts' glove after an out.

LOS ANGELES — Major drama occurred in the opening game of the 2024 World Series that may have decided which team won Game 1. As the ball was coming down, a fan reached out over the railing and snagged it in his glove. But Dodgers left fielder Teoscar Hernández flailed his arms in protest, saying the fan interfered with the ball. The controversial play drew comparisons to legendary fan interference call such as Yankees fan Jeffrey Maier at the 1996 ALCS who reached over the stands at Yankee Stadium to aid Derek Jeter’s home run. Game 2 is Saturday night in Los Angeles at 8:08 p.m.

In the fifth inning, Soto misplayed a Hernández triple down the right-field line, which Statcast estimated had a 5 percent catch probability. Then, in the eighth inning, Ohtani blasted a double off the right-field wall. For all of his offensive success, Soto’s biggest weakness remains his defense, which cost the Yankees in Game 1.
