His supporters have dubbed Marwan Barghouti the “Palestinian Nelson Mandela” in the hope that after more than two decades behind bars, he can emulate the late South African leader and make the journey from prisoner to national unifier. At that time, Palestinian militants carried out deadly suicide bombings and shootings inside both Israel and the Palestinian territories, targeting buses, restaurants and hotels. “He’s someone who creates something out of nothing, and he believes in education for the Palestinian people,” Arab Barghouti added. Palestinian protesters wave flags and placards bearing portraits of Fatah leader Marwan Barghouti in 2015. “Ami Ayalon and others have said Marwan Barghouti may be the one leader who can be an effective partner for peace,” he said.

Al Jazeera, the influential Arab news network, said that two of its journalists were killed on Wednesday in an Israeli airstrike on their car in Gaza City. The Qatar-based network said the reporter Ismail al-Ghoul and his cameraman, Rami al-Rifee, were killed in Shati camp in northern Gaza after reporting from or near the house of the deceased Hamas political chief, Ismail Haniyeh, who was assassinated in Tehran on Wednesday. Mohammed Moawad, Al Jazeera’s managing editor, praised Mr. al-Ghoul’s courage in a post on social media. “Ismail was renowned for his professionalism and dedication, bringing the world’s attention to the suffering and atrocities committed in Gaza,” he said. The Committee to Protect Journalists has said the war in Gaza has led to the deadliest period for correspondents since it began gathering data in 1992, with at least 111 journalists and media workers among the more than 39,000 people killed in Gaza.

But there's no denying that a large number of people, mostly women, found Joe Arden's voice to be exceedingly hot: smooth, insistent, husky, occasionally dropping to a seductive growl. Arden's voice made him one of the most popular romance audiobook narrators of his generation. Last year, a promising new romance author reached out to Blue Nose Audio and received a reply from Joe Arden. "My working name of 'Joe Arden,' has always been just that, a professional persona that labeled my career," he added. For good measure, they dug up Cronin's abandoned trademark application for the Joe Arden moniker, first filed in 2020.

In his newest role, Goggins is a lot more than "That Guy." It's the kind of role Goggins excels at playing: a complex character who makes the audience question if they can — or should — root for him. CNN —At least 19 people have been killed and 23 injured from Israeli fire on Gaza residents who were waiting for humanitarian aid at the Kuwait roundabout in Gaza City on Saturday, according to the Government Media Office in Gaza. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said reports claiming it attacked dozens of Gazans at an aid convoy are incorrect and that a review of the incident is underway. The Kuwait roundabout in Gaza City has become known as an area where aid trucks distribute food, attracting crowds of people desperate for supplies. Several deadly attacks by Israeli soldiers on crowds of civilians lining up for aid have been reported in recent weeks. It is unclear why aid was being distributed in the area of the Kuwait roundabout on Saturday.

CNN —The Israeli military launched an operation on Monday against Gaza’s largest hospital facility, Al-Shifa, where thousands of people are sheltering. “Military vehicles are firing at the hospital buildings’ windows, and at anyone who is caught moving between the hallways,” Hamada Abdelhadi, a displaced Palestinian man seeking shelter at Al-Shifa, told CNN. One witness who lives in nearby Gaza City told CNN he had seen “a big invasion of tanks” headed toward Al-Shifa. And dead bodies and those injured were pulled away by Israeli forces,” he told CNN by phone. During the first round of fighting at Al-Shifa in November, Israel urged Gaza’s northern residents to head south to seek refuge.

A crummy "Willy Wonka experience" event in Glasgow went viral for how laughable and disappointing it was. Amid the cheap decorations and actors in cheap costumes, one thing stood out: "The Unknown," a fake villain they made up. An evil candymaker, this horrifying silver-faced ghoul is now, I declare, officially Wonka canon. And it is for this reason that we must now accept that "The Unknown" is officially part of the Willy Wonka canon. This story is available exclusively to Business Insider subscribers.

In Hobbesian terms, life in a Fincher film tends to be solitary and poor, nasty and brutish, if not necessarily short. That’s the case again in his most recent movie, “The Killer,” about a nameless hit man — played by Michael Fassbender — a chatty loner first seen waiting for a victim to show up. In time, the mark appears, the Killer shoots but misses, and spends the remainder of the story trying to clean up the mess. “The Killer” is based on a French comic book with the same title written by Alexis Nolent (who goes by Matz) and illustrated by Luc Jacamon. What makes him ostensibly interesting isn’t his job or body count; what’s intriguing, at least before your eyes finally glaze over, is that he’s dull.

There’s an adage about horror movies, often attributed to Alfred Hitchcock: What you don’t see is more frightening than what you do. This makes audio dramas excellent vehicles for the horror genre, because the absence of visual storytelling forces listeners to fill in the gaps. Jan 3 (Reuters) - A former Colorado funeral home owner was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison on Tuesday for defrauding relatives of the dead by dissecting 560 corpses and selling body parts without permission. Sheoperated a funeral home, Sunset Mesa, and a body parts entity,Donor Services, from the same building in Montrose, Colorado. "Hess and Koch used their funeral home at times toessentially steal bodies and body parts using fraudulent andforged donor forms," prosecutor Tim Neff said in a court filing. The federal case was triggered by a 2016-2018 Reuters investigative series about the sale of body parts in the UnitedStates, a virtually unregulated industry. But selling body parts such as heads, arms and spines –which is what Hess did – for use in research or education is notregulated by federal law.
