President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday won a stay of deadlines in his hush-money case. Trump was to learn Tuesday if the case is dismissed, and if not be sentenced next week. In the top-of-the-ticket presidential race, Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump entered the day virtually deadlocked in national polling and surveys of the pivotal battleground states. Senate Democrats and House Republicans were hoping to hang on to thin majorities amid fierce competition. Trump planned to gather family, friends and staff at Mar-a-Lago, his resort in West Palm Beach, Florida, to monitor returns. Along with the rest of the country, Trump and Harris must now await the judgment of voters in the seven swing states — Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Georgia, North Carolina, Arizona and Nevada — to find out who is right. Senate Democrats are also playing defense in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Nevada, Michigan, Wisconsin, Nevada and Maryland.

ProPublica reported last week that two Texas women died after they faced delays in getting miscarriage care because of the state’s abortion ban. ProPublica’s coverage in September linked two deaths to Georgia’s abortion ban. “The nature of the strict abortion ban in Texas does not allow us as medical professionals to do our jobs,” they wrote. But reproductive rights advocates said stories about the consequences of abortion bans resonate with voters in any part of the country. Their children now are growing up without their mothers because of our state’s abortion ban,” Black said.

The “blue wall” states of Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania have paved the path to the White House for the last two Democratic presidents. Recent discussions have centered on the possibility of an anomaly happening this year with just part of the blue wall breaking its way. “We absolutely are competing to win Michigan,” Harris campaign spokeswoman Lauren Hitt said, noting Harris’ presence there this week. The blue wall states have been pivotal to elect presidents in the last several elections. “Those three, the blue wall states, almost always stay together, but this year it’s an extraordinarily tight race.

A few possessions later, Tennessee sealed the win with a Will Brooks interception of Jalen Milroe with 1:24 to play. Though the Tide won last year in Tuscaloosa, Saturday marked Tennessee’s second consecutive win against Alabama at Neyland Stadium, something that hadn’t happened since 2004 and 2006. The Vols jumped to 56 percent after the win, and the Tide fell to 53 percent, according to The Athletic’s Austin Mock. A loss to Tennessee coupled with the loss to Vanderbilt and a lackluster win against South Carolina puts Alabama in a simple but challenging position: win out or bust. Four Tennessee drives reached Alabama territory in the first half Saturday, but the Volunteers failed to score on any of them.

And right now, the presidential campaigns’ dollars are talking about the “blue wall” — and about defining Kamala Harris. But there’s an equal amount of contrast spots, as well as positive ads telling the affirmative case for Harris. Pennsylvania is drawing far and away the most ad spending this month, from both parties. While Pennsylvania drew almost 20% of Democratic presidential ad spending and 11% of Republican spending over this period in 2020, it’s drawing more than a quarter of each party’s spending this year. Meanwhile, a longtime swing state, Iowa, has ceased to be a main battleground — with a resulting drop in ad spending.

The NAACP plans to spend $20 million encouraging Black Americans, a critical voting bloc in the presidential race, to turn out to vote across 12 states this fall. The NAACP’s campaign is not geared toward benefiting specific candidates, but rather is designed to broadly mobilize and educate Black voters ahead of the 2024 election. The group plans to engage more than 14.5 million Black voters. While Black voters traditionally overwhelmingly support Democrats, the margin of victory and turnout levels among the group can make a major difference. By comparison, exit polls across those same states showed President Joe Biden won 89% of Black voters, compared with 9% for Trump.

After spending a few months researching places to live, New York City — the borough of Brooklyn in particular — stood out. "Cities like Boston that used to seem affordable are feeling just as expensive as New York City for a fraction of the experience," she added. The median rent for a one-bedroom apartment in New York City is $3,300 compared to $2,600 in Boston, per Zillow. "Our polling consistently showed that by staying on the ballot in the battleground states, I would likely hand the election over to the Democrats," Kennedy said. This significantly reduces the potential electoral boost Trump could get in these states from Kennedy's exit. Wisconsin's Elections Commission has voted to keep Kennedy on the state's ballot. This leaves just Arizona and Pennsylvania as the states where Kennedy's exit appears poised to help Trump outright. You know, Hillary Clinton, who was, I think, kind of a terrible candidate, won the popular vote by two points. So I don’t think they gave her a very good hand to play. It doesn’t matter who you are, it matters that you’re right and you’re able to prove it or bet on it in some way. What wasn’t in the Harris model that should have been?” “Yeah, maybe you really can meme your way to victory. And there’s something in it that I don’t think she can explain how she does it, but it makes her a fascinating leader.

The Hunter Biden and Trump cases are vastly different, as is the way the former and current first families have responded to the trials. This is especially significant since Hunter Biden could face up to 25 years in prison if convicted, although a sentence for a first-time offender is unlikely to be that severe. The Hunter Biden trial is the latest cruel twist in the story of a family that has endured more tragedies than most could bear. The infringements on the Biden family’s dignity and privacy cut deep during the trial, which saw discomforting testimony about Hunter Biden’s former cocaine addiction. The Libertarian Party chose one of its own as its presidential nominee on Sunday night, capping a grueling day of elimination voting and a boisterous four-day event, where both Donald J. Trump and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. unsuccessfully sought to court the group’s backing. The nominee, Chase Oliver — an openly gay former Democrat who in 2022 forced a runoff in a race for a U.S. Senate seat in Georgia — beat out nine other candidates at the party’s national convention in Washington, including Mr. Kennedy. Mr. Trump, who was not an official candidate, received six write-in votes in the first round. The Libertarian Party is among the better-established minor parties, with name recognition and placement on the majority of state ballots in November. The Libertarian nominee is guaranteed to be on the November ballot in at least 37 states, a number that party leaders say they expect to grow in the coming months.

Washington CNN —Top Republicans are already rushing to buy into a new 2024 election fraud narrative sown by ex-President Donald Trump in their zeal to appease their party’s presumptive nominee. The new Republican trend of casting doubt on the integrity of the 2024 election in advance was exhibited by Sen. Ted Cruz on Wednesday in an interview with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins. Despite Trump’s claims of voting irregularities, multiple courts, including the US Supreme Court, rejected the former president’s claims he was cheated out of power. The positioning looks a lot like laying the groundwork for a challenge to the fairness of the 2024 election if Trump loses in November. The idea that the 2024 election may not be free and fair was also raised recently by Ohio Sen. J.D.

The idea that Cohen talked to Trump about Daniels on that call “was a lie,” Blanche alleged. Moreover, my experience has been that juries don’t decide based upon one moment — they base their judgment on an overall view.”There were allegedly three parties aware of the scheme to conceal the real reason Trump paid Cohen more than $400,000 in supposed legal fees: Trump, Cohen and Allen Weisselberg, then-chief financial officer of the Trump Organization. “Weisselberg could be the linchpin to validate Cohen’s claims about Trump agreeing to reimburse him through Trump Organization, as a business expense,” wrote attorney Stacy Schneider. Trump seems to be tempted to go mano a mano and show that he is better fit to be commander-in-chief. The new requirement for GOP politicians wanting to demonstrate their loyalty to Trump seems to be visiting the Manhattan courthouse where he’s on trial.
