LONDON — The U.K.'s new Labour government on Wednesday outlined a raft of proposed legislation, including the nationalization of rail operators and the creation of a publicly-owned clean power company. In a speech delivered by King Charles III on behalf of the administration, the government said it is "committed to a clean energy transition that will lower bills for consumers over time," adding that it would establish Great British Energy, headquartered in Scotland, to help accelerate investment in renewable energy such as offshore wind. The speech listed a broad range of proposals, many of which have already been announced. A pledge of economic growth was yet again front and center in the speech, described in the opening lines as a "fundamental mission" which would help the country move on from the cost of living crisis.

Final preparations are made in the Centre Room on July 8, where members of Royal Collection Trust staff tend to a chandelier. The East Wing was built shortly after, between 1847 and 1849, to accommodate their growing family. Today, Buckingham Palace is mainly used for official meetings and events.

London CNN —A set of 19th-century drawings by a teenage Queen Victoria will be put up for auction in London next week. An ink drawing by Queen Victoria, titled "A seated woman with a crown and sash" and dated 1838, is inscribed "by Her Majesty." George Hayter also gave the Queen drawing lessons, and Russell believes these drawings show his influence “quite closely”. The auction house has previously sold other works by royal artists, including a painting by Queen Victoria’s daughter, Princess Victoria, which fetched £4,198 (around $5,320) last year. The Royal Collection Trust, which looks after the royal family’s art collection, has more than 4,000 works by Queen Victoria, spanning 64 years of her life.
