CNN —Lionel Messi scored a signature goal Saturday to lead Inter Miami past Nashville FC in a penalty kick shootout to capture the Leagues Cup title and score the club’s first trophy. Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba all scored their penalties for Inter Miami as the shootout progressed into sudden death. Although Inter Miami sits last in MLS standings, the club has had quite the turnaround since the 2022 World Cup winner Messi joined the squad in June. On their journey to the club’s first title, Inter Miami won four of its seven matches in the tournament by multiple goals. With the victory, Inter Miami qualifies directly to the 2024 Concacaf Champions League Round of 16.

Newsletter Sign-up The Logistics Report Top news and in-depth analysis on the world of logistics, from supply chain to transport and technology. MS. LOMBARD: The supply chain used to be quite seamless and fluid. The world order has a huge impact on the supply chain and its stability. Sally Miller, chief information officer of DHL’s North American supply-chain business, a unit of Deutsche Post AG , said she is planning to deploy “a good number” of temporary robots at several of the company’s retail-focused sites. The Locus Robotics robots—which the manufacturer calls “surge bots”—will be used for picking up orders and fulfillment, Ms. Miller said. Photo: Locus RoboticsKnown as robots-as-a-service, leased robots are employed widely in manufacturing, but are relatively new to the logistics industry, analysts said. The extra robots, provided by Berkeley, Calif.-based Ambi Robotics Inc., helped the company handle a surge of packages, it said. Mr. Faulk, of Locus Robotics, said the company hopes many logistics firms will hold on to their temporary robots well after seasonal highs, as a way to eke out year-round efficiencies.
Locus Robotics raised $117 million in a round led by Goldman Sachs. Goldman Managing Director Mark Midle, who will be joining Locus' board, called the company a "market leader" in the warehouse automation space in a statement accompanying this announcement. Locus CEO Rick Faulk told Insider that Goldman, G2, and other investors in the oversubscribed round have been watching Locus for more than four years. But that doesn't mean all warehouse robotics startups are flourishing. Founded in 2014, Locus robots are in use in more than 320 warehouses around the world.
