University of Connecticut star Paige Bueckers will sign a name, image and likeness deal with the new women's basketball league Unrivaled, people familiar with the matter told CNBC. Unrivaled was founded last year by Women's National Basketball Association players Breanna Stewart of the New York Liberty and Napheesa Collier of the Minnesota Lynx. In February, Bueckers announced she would forgo the 2024 WNBA Draft to return to UConn for her senior season. Unrivaled was started as a way to allow WNBA basketball players the option to play in the U.S. during their offseason. That figure topped the previous high of 9.9 million viewers from last season's NCAA championship game between the same programs. ESPN said Monday's figure was the highest viewership for any college basketball game ever on its platforms and the second-highest of any basketball game — college or NBA — since 2012. FanDuel told CNBC on Tuesday that Iowa-LSU was also its biggest betting event of all time for women's sports. ESPN said the women's Elite Eight averaged 6.2 million viewers, up 184% year-over-year, and represented four of the top five most-watched games in that round on record.

STORRS, Conn. (AP) — UConn guard Azzi Fudd will miss the remainder of the season with a noncontact knee injury she sustained last week during practice, the school said Wednesday. Fudd tore the medial meniscus and anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee when she came down after a jump shot on Nov. 14 in practice, the school said. The school said Fudd will have surgery at UConn Health at a “later date.”“We’re all just so upset for Azzi,” coach Geno Auriemma said in a statement. She missed 10 games with a foot injury during her freshman season and 22 games because of knee injuries during her sophomore campaign. Fudd’s injury comes after the return of another UConn star, Paige Bueckers, who missed all of last season and 19 games during her sophomore campaign with knee injuries.

Kim Mulkey, the coach of defending national champion LSU, has agreed to a 10-year contract worth about $32 million that will set a new mark for the richest coaching contract in women's college basketball, according to a person with knowledge of the deal. The deal also still needs approval from the LSU Board of Supervisors, who are scheduled to vote on it Friday. The Hall of Fame coach has been at LSU for two seasons, during which she has taken a program that missed the NCAA Tournament three seasons ago and elevated it to the pinnacle of its sport. It was her fourth national title as a head coach — the first three coming at Baylor, where she coached from 2000 to 2021. Her record at LSU in two seasons combined is 50-8, with NCAA Tournament appearances both years.
