CNN —The attorney who represents two women who were witnesses in the House Ethics Committee probe into former congressman Matt Gaetz said Friday that one of his clients told the panel she saw the congressman having sex with a minor. “My client testified to the House Ethics Committee that she witnessed Matt Gaetz having sex with a minor,” said attorney Joel Leppard, whose clients sat for closed-door testimony before the committee as part of the now-dropped investigation into the Florida Republican. A man wanted in connection to the slaying of a New York City woman at a chic Hamptons resort was found dead in Pennsylvania, police said Wednesday. Gannon "was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at his home" in Honesdale, Pennsylvania, about 200 miles from the murder scene, according to a Suffolk County Police Department statement. "We are not confirming the relationship, but we can say it was domestic in nature," a Suffolk County police spokesperson said. CNN —Jay Johnston, the actor known for his roles on “Arrested Development,” “Bob’s Burgers” and other TV shows, pleaded guilty Monday over his involvement in the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol. Johnston pleaded guilty to one felony count of civil disorder. According to charging documents, Johnston took a shield from officers and used it to push against police defending the tunnel. Charging documents also say that Johnston acknowledged his involvement in the Capitol attack, texting an associate that it “actually wasn’t” an attack. CNN —A Pennsylvania man was indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly threatening to kill President Joe Biden and his Cabinet in a video posted online. Jordan Gee, 37, of Nanticoke, Pennsylvania, was charged with three felony counts of threats against the president and one count of interstate threats, according to the Justice Department. Prosecutors allege that Gee posted several videos online following Biden’s visit to Scranton, Pennsylvania, in April for a campaign event. His arraignment is set for May 29 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Threats against elected officials have been a top concern for US security officials as the 2024 general election approaches.

CNN —Former Trump adviser Steve Bannon should begin serving a four-month prison sentence now that a federal appeals court has upheld his contempt-of-Congress conviction, the Justice Department told a federal judge Tuesday. US District Judge Carl Nichols, who presided over Bannon’s trial, had paused Bannon’s sentence while an appeal of his conviction played out. He has given Bannon until Thursday to respond to the DOJ’s request. Circuit rejected defendant’s appeal on all grounds, including the primary argument on appeal: the requisite mental state required for a contempt of Congress violation,” the Justice Department wrote. The timing of when Bannon will be expected to report to prison is still unclear.

CNN —Former Republican National Committee chairwoman Ronna McDaniel on Sunday called the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol “unacceptable” after years of deflecting on the issue. McDaniel, who is joining NBC News as a political analyst after exiting the RNC earlier this month, told the outlet that the Capitol riot “doesn’t represent our country. It certainly does not represent my party.”“We should not be attacking the Capitol; we should not be having violence,” she added. CNN —A man set himself on fire outside the Israeli Embassy in Washington, DC, on Sunday, according to a statement from the Washington Metropolitan Police Department. The adult male was transported by DC Fire and EMS to a local hospital and remains in critical condition, MPD said. By the time firefighters were dispatched to the scene, the fire had already been extinguished by US Secret Service, according to Vito Maggiolo, a public information officer from DC Fire. MPD is working with the Secret Service and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to investigate the incident.
