As the sun sets over the harbor in Kalundborg, a small town about 60 miles west of Copenhagen, light streams through the glass walls of Shaun Gamble’s cafe and bathes his afternoon customers in a warm glow. Nearby, at a sprawling manufacturing plant, Novo Nordisk makes nearly all of its semaglutide, the active ingredient in the company’s wildly popular diabetes and obesity treatments Ozempic and Wegovy. A CNBC journalist accused Jeff Shell, the former chief executive of NBCUniversal, of pressuring her for sex over a period of years during her career at the business news network, according to a copy of her complaint reviewed by The New York Times. The complaint, lodged in late March by Hadley Gamble, an anchor and senior international correspondent, kicked off an investigation that led to Mr. Shell’s dismissal last week, sending shock waves across a far-flung media empire that includes NBC News, the Universal movie studio and DreamWorks Animation. Procter & Gamble, a consumer goods bellwether, said that its profit grew in the first three months of the year after it raised prices 10 percent across its brands, the second consecutive quarterly double-digit increase. The company’s profit margin expanded in the quarter, with price increases more than offsetting the rise in what it paid for raw materials. In other words, Procter & Gamble made more money even though it sold fewer products. Sales volumes at the company have declined for the past four quarters. Jon Moeller, Procter & Gamble’s chief executive, said in a statement that the company delivered strong results “in what continues to be a very difficult cost and operating environment.”
