An 88-year-old doctor accused of sexually assaulting Indiana University basketball players back in the 1990s has been ordered to appear before a judge Tuesday to determine whether he is competent to be questioned about the alleged abuse. Delaney named the Trustees of Indiana University as defendants in the lawsuit, alleging Title IX violations by the school for failing to protect the students. In response, Indiana University retained the Jones Day law firm to launch an independent investigation into the Bomba allegations. The doctor had played football for Indiana University and was nicknamed “Frankenstein” by coaches and players “due to the large size of his hands and fingers,” the lawsuit added. The accusations that IU turned a blind eye to allegations of a team doctor sexually abusing student-athletes echo another major scandal involving a team doctor.

The US and France will play a role in monitoring for potential violations of the deal. Regional experts say the US role in monitoring creates complications and challenges. A cease-fire agreement that aims to end the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah, the Iran-backed Lebanese militant group, marks a hopeful diplomatic moment after nearly 14 months of conflict. Gerges said that the inclusion of the US in the cease-fire monitoring process "complicates" matters. The cease-fire agreement will not stop the fighting in Gaza, though President Joe Biden said on Wednesday that the US will make "another push" to broker a deal there.

Beneath the snowy slopes lay a prehistoric surprise: an ecosystem that predates the dinosaurs, revealed by melting snow before being stumbled upon by a hiker in the Italian Alps. Intrigued, she snapped photos and shared them with her friend, Elio Della Ferrera, a nature photographer. Della Ferrera then contacted Dal Sasso, at the museum in Milan, to learn more about the discovery. These environmental shifts contributed to the extinction of many species, which we may now encounter as fossils on a fortunate hike. “The past has much to teach us about what we risk doing to the world today,” the researchers warned.
