Target is lowering prices on more than 2,000 items across an array of categories in a bid to offer more discounts to cash-strapped customers as the holiday season approaches. Both Target and Walmart have also sought to lean in to more store-brand offerings as a means of offering discounts. The most recent official retail sales data showed ongoing strength in consumer spending, while the pace of 12-month inflation continues to approach the Federal Reserve's official 2% target. The cars will be sold at different events late this year and in 2025, according to the statement. Things will pick up next week with several closely watched macroeconomic updates, including two key government inflation reports. While no Club earnings are scheduled to report earnings in the week ahead, 61 companies in the S & P 500 will deliver their latest quarterly results. Consumer inflation: The main event of the week will come on Tuesday when the January consumer price index (CPI) is released.

DETROIT — Ford Motor is rethinking its electric vehicle strategies, including "reassessing" the need for vertical integration of batteries, CEO Jim Farley said Tuesday. He also said the company is pulling a target for its EV unit that called for 8% margin by 2026. As Ford pulls back and reevaluates the EV business, it intends to lean in on sales of hybrid vehicles, specifically trucks. The company expects its hybrid sales to increase 40% this year. It sold 133,743 hybrid vehicles in the U.S. in 2023.

Total auction sales of classic cars (for both online and live auctions) fell 3% last year to $4.19 billion from $4.32 billion in 2022, according to data from Classic.com. The growth in the number of cars sold helped to offset a decline in prices. The average price of a car sold on the site fell to $54,000 in 2023 from $59,500 in 2022. Bring a Trailer's sales increased about 2% last year to over $1.4 billion from $1.35 billion in 2022, according to the company's CEO Randy Nonnenberg. Bring a Trailer sold over 30,000 cars in 2023, up 19% from 2022.
