"But there is no doubt this war will have fiscal implications that will depend on its intensity and duration," he said in published remarks. "However, with the appropriate budget adjustments, ones that I believe are manageable, there should be no major changes to our fundamental fiscal position." He noted that Israel entered this war with a very solid fiscal position - a debt-to-GDP ratio just below 60% and a budget deficit of around 1.5% of GDP with similar projections for 2024. The central bank, Yaron noted, was using a variety of policy tools to assure the continuing functioning of the markets. Yaron said Israel's forex reserves of some $200 billion "provides us with ample capacity to support the Israeli economy."

Better policy could unlock growth in Latam - G30 think tank

The report's recommendations include getting the region's macroeconomic framework in shape, investing better in infrastructure, and strengthening political parties. The Group of 30's think tank working group on Latin America said the region suffers a "governance deficit" that will require "deep and ambitious" political reforms, including at the center of government and legislative power. Mexico and Brazil are treated individually, with the former locked in a "growth paradox" where decades of macroeconomic stability and a sophisticated manufacturing sector have not yielded economic growth. Reuters GraphicsThe working group agreed there is no one action that could unlock output across the region, as even the countries that have a strong macro setup are suffering stagnant growth. Andres Velasco, project director of the G30 Working Group on Latin America, said "the opportunities are obvious" for the region as Latam can provide the world with water, food and clean energy.

REUTERS/Murad Sezer/IllustrationORLANDO, Florida, March 27 (Reuters) - The most extraordinary outcome of the March banking shock would be if the problem dissipated quickly. Many people hope the crisis of confidence infecting global banking this month can be repelled almost as quickly as it appeared. SAVINGS AND LOANS DEBACLEThe easy comparison for any banking or market turmoil is the GFC of 2007-08. But crises don't have to be equal to or worse than the world's most calamitous financial disaster in a century to be extremely damaging. But other banking crises follow the same playbook, even if their outcomes are not as extreme.
WASHINGTON, Oct 15 (Reuters) - Europe's energy subsidies may reduce the current rate of inflation but only at the expense of future higher readings, potentially complicating the task of monetary policy, European Central Bank (ECB) policymaker Francois Villeroy de Galhau said on Saturday. "We should not be under the illusion that price caps reduce underlying inflation," Villeroy said in Washington on Saturday, addressing a meeting of the G30, a group of private and public financial officials. "Price caps, if temporary, only reduce current measured inflation at the expense of future measured inflation." Instead of broader spending increases which add to already high inflation pressures, governments should focus help on those in the greatest need of help, Villeroy argued.
WASHINGTON, Oct 15 (Reuters) - Bank of Japan Governor Haruhiko Kuroda said on Saturday the central bank will maintain its ultra-loose monetary policy to ensure its 2% inflation target will be hit in a sustainable and stable manner. "Since Japan's headline inflation is likely to fall below 2% next fiscal year, the BOJ will continuing with monetary easing," Kuroda said in a G30 seminar.
