“Beef” actor Patti Yasutake has died at the age of 70. Yasutake, who was arguably best known for her role as Nurse Alyssa Ogawa on “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and subsequent “Star Trek” franchises, died Monday. Fritz said the actor died surrounded by her family after a long battle with cancer. Yasutake was born and raised in Los Angeles, Fritz said, and graduated UCLA with honors in theater. A working actor her whole life, Yasutake had a slew of theater credits and got her start at East West Players in Los Angeles, Fritz said.

Surprise: Idris ElbaThe lead acting categories were virtually surprise free, which makes sense when you consider that the comedy series and drama series categories were even more surprise free. The one really unexpected nomination was for Elba’s performance as a professional negotiator trying to get a hijacked airliner safely to the ground in the surprisingly popular Apple TV+ potboiler “Hijack.” Never bet against Stringer Bell. (Performers who were thought to have a better chance included Cosmo Jarvis for “Shogun” and Colin Farrell for “Sugar.”)Snub: Kelsey GrammerIf there were a category for Lead Actor in a Comedy Rebooted After 20 Years, Grammer would have been a shoo-in for “Frasier” on Paramount+. Snub: A few people in ‘The Bear’ and ‘Shogun’“The Bear” received the most comedy nominations ever in a single year and on the drama side, “Shogun” received the most of any series this year. As well as FX’s presumptive winners in their series categories did, however, they did not sweep the nominations to quite the extent they could have: Oliver Platt and Matty Matheson of “The Bear” did not receive bids for comedy supporting actor and Moeka Hoshi and Fumi Nikaido of “Shogun” were shut out for drama supporting actress.

Even as the import ban kicked in, tables were filled at Japanese restaurant Fumi in Hong Kong on August 24, 2023. Kathleen Magramo/CNNHours before China’s announcement, the Asian financial center of Hong Kong – a semi-autonomous Chinese city – imposed its own ban on aquatic product imports from 10 Japanese regions including Tokyo and Fukushima. Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has reportedly “strongly” requested via diplomatic channels that China “immediately overturn” the ban. Still, Fei too thought that the bans from China and Hong Kong would have limited impact on Japanese trade. Consequently, even considering the reputational damage for Japanese seafood products, Japan’s overall exports will not be materially undermined,” Fei said.

[1/5] Fuminori Tsuchiko, 75-year-old humanitarian volunteer from Japan, passes free food to people at his cafe, amid Russia's attack on Ukraine, in Kharkiv, Ukraine April 24, 2023. Moved by the plight of residents forced by Russian shelling to shelter in subway stations, the 75-year-old Japanese national from Tokyo decided to stay. For months, he said, he lived in a metro station and worked as a volunteer distributing food in the subway. One visitor to the cafe, Anna Tovstopyatova, said she had come to make a donation. Kharkiv held off Russian forces and Ukrainian forces then pushed Russian troops back towards the border.
