The State of Oregon, representing Oregon’s public employees retirement fund, joined the New York City funds in their lawsuit against Fox. The lawsuit, which was filed in Delaware, was shared with The New York Times. It will remain under seal at the court for five days to allow time for redactions before it is made public. The board includes the media mogul Rupert Murdoch and his son Lachlan Murdoch, who control the company. Fox has faced numerous legal battles in the wake of its promotion of election conspiracy theories.

CNN —Lachlan Murdoch, Fox Corporation’s chief executive, paid substantial legal fees to Private Media, which publishes the scrappy Australia-based news outlet Crikey, after abandoning his defamation lawsuit against the outlet. So, $1,306,739 Australian ($839,207.39 US) to cover Private Media’s legal costs, more than the $1.1 million Australian ($705,000 US) that had been sought by the outlet. Private Media, which had crowdfunded its legal defense against Murdoch, pledged to donate $588,735 Australian ($377,555 US) — all of the money it had raised — to the Alliance for Journalists’ Freedom. Will Hayward, the chief executive of Private Media, said he was “delighted” to be able to donate the funds. “This includes campaigning for a Media Freedom Act, supported by a voluntary membership that will recognize quality journalism.”

Fox Corporation’s chief legal officer, Viet Dinh, is departing, the company announced on Friday, in a major shake-up at the company after the landmark $787.5 million settlement it paid to Dominion Voting Systems in April. Mr. Dinh, a former official in the George W. Bush White House who amassed considerable power inside Fox, will stay on through the rest of the year, Fox said. Mr. Dinh gave what some inside the company considered flawed advice during the Dominion suit, which exposed a pattern of deceptive coverage by Fox News after the 2020 election. He insisted that Fox was on firm legal footing and could take the case, if need be, all the way to the Supreme Court, where he believed the company would prevail on First Amendment grounds. Which is why, perhaps, the White House felt the need to formally respond, even though, typically, the Biden administration opts not to get in the mud with the network. Asked about the “dictator” charge on Wednesday, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre replied, “There are probably about 787 million things that I can say about this. Meanwhile, White House deputy press secretary Andrew Bates went nuclear on the outlet for its story about the pride flag. No such statement was released about the story Fox News published about the supposed “controversial new transgender flag” the White House flew over the weekend for Pride Month.
