U.S. safety regulators have opened a probe into Amazon -owned robotaxi venture Zoox after two of its autonomous SUVs braked suddenly and were rear-ended by motorcyclists. In both cases, motorcyclists collided into the Zoox vehicles, which led to minor injuries. NHTSA said it confirmed each of the Zoox cars were operating in autonomous mode when the incidents occurred. Both of the collisions took place during the daytime and within the operational design limits of Zoox's autonomous system. Last March, the agency said it would investigate Zoox's self-certification in 2022 that its robotaxi met federal safety standards.

Stocks rallied hard on Tuesday after new inflation data signaled a possible end to the Federal Reserve's rate-hiking campaign. The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped nearly 500 points after the closely watched consumer price index (CPI) reading for October came in flat, softer than economists' estimate of 0.1% growth month over month. Wall Street took the news as a sign that inflation was coming down enough for the central bank to stop raising interest rates. Barring a surprise rebound in inflation, rates seem to have peaked and the "soft landing" for the economy is still in play. We like to buy stocks when the market is oversold, and sell stocks when there is too much buying.

The judicial overhaul and the uncertainty, disruption and risks that come with it, are forcing him to shift Tipalti’s money and talent overseas, he says. The company keeps all its funds outside Israel, apart from three months’ payroll as required by its bank, he says. At the same time, money going into Israel’s 7,000 startups is plunging, says Ari Strasberg, SNC’s Vice President of Strategy. According to SNC, tech startups raised $15.5 billion in 2022, the equivalent to just under 3% of the country’s GDP. Protesters still hope the government will reverse course, or that its judicial overhaul bills will be struck down by the Supreme Court.

Foster City, California-based Gilead collaborated with the CDC in the mid-2000s to test if Truvada could prevent HIV as well as treat it. The government received four patents for HIV prevention drug regimens that CDC researchers invented. Its lawsuit claims the patents also cover Gilead's pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) drug regimen for lowering HIV infection risk. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Gilead's Truvada for HIV prevention in 2012 and approved its related drug Descovy for the same purpose in 2019. Descovy, which earned Gilead over $1.8 billion last year, is its fourth-best selling drug behind the HIV drugs Biktarvy and Genvoya and COVID-19 treatment Veklury.

London CNN —Amazon’s Zoox driverless transportation company has started testing its robotaxi on open public roads — with employees on board, for now. The company said Monday that it conducted an initial run of its shuttle service for workers at its headquarters in Foster City, California on February 11, a key step in its efforts to make autonomous vehicles widely available. Full-time employees will now be able to travel in the self-driving taxi on the route between Zoox’s two main office buildings. Zoox, which was founded in 2014 and purchased by Amazon in 2020, is unique in its approach to designing electric self-driving vehicles. But Zoox has ditched the steering wheel and brake pedal, claiming those features are unnecessary when there’s no human driver.
SAN FRANCISCO, Feb 13 (Reuters) - Amazon.com Inc's (AMZN.O) self-driving vehicle unit, Zoox, said on Monday it has successfully tested a robotaxi with employees as passengers on a public road in a move to bring it closer to commercial service for the general public. Ford Motor Co (F.N) and Volkswagen AG (VOWG_p.DE) last fall announced they would shutter their Argo AI self-driving unit and focus on driver-assistance technology that provided more immediate returns. Companies still pursuing development of this technology include General Motors Co's (GM.N) Cruise unit and Alphabet Inc's (GOOGL.O) Waymo. Online retailer Amazon, which has been aggressively expanding into self-driving technology, bought Zoox for $1.3 billion in 2020. Amazon -owned autonomous vehicle venture Zoox said on Monday that it is now testing its self-driving robotaxis on public roads in California with passengers on board. Zoox executives said the company began the tests after it received approval from the California Department of Motor Vehicles last week. Zoox said one of its vehicles completed a test run with employees on board over the weekend. Zoox unveiled its custom-built, electric robotaxi in 2020, with an eye on offering on-demand autonomous transportation in urban settings. It will continue to test the vehicle with employees and expects to launch a shuttle service for staffers this spring.
