WASHINGTON — The first Trump presidency shattered conservative economic ideology on the Republican Party's approach to free markets and tariffs. Source: AmericanCompass.org To be clear, this is not yet the dominant strain of Republican economic thinking in Washington. Cass argues that Republican economic policy has been focused on the wrong goals: lowering prices and increasing consumption. "It was absolutely black letter economic doctrine that the point of economic policy was to consume as much as possible. watch now"Spinning assets in circles creates nothing of value, and in fact creates the opposite of value," Cass said.

Read previewChesterfield Mall, set to shut down in October, has become an unexpected parking lot for hundreds of Tesla vehicles over the last few months. The Teslas, including Cybertrucks, parked outside of the Chesterfield, Missouri, shopping spot puzzled people passing by, especially as the number of EVs seemed to increase over time. According to the report, Tesla is storing unsold vehicles at the mall until it shuts down. Staenberg said Tesla has occupied the space for about six or seven months and can stay until the mall closes in October. Inventory lots aren't uncommonTesla isn't the only car brand to store its unsold vehicles outside a dealership.

WAYNE, Mich. (AP) — Throughout its 5-week-old strikes against Detroit’s automakers, the United Auto Workers union has cast an emphatically combative stance, reflecting the style of its pugnacious leader, Shawn Fain. Officials at all three companies note that they have sweetened pay offers and offered numerous other concessions. Fain has even sought 32-hour work weeks for 40 hours of pay — a demand that even many union workers call unrealistic. In a departure from the style of past UAW leaders, Fain has insulted CEOs and publicly revealed the companies' pay offers. Parker, whom Fain tapped to be an assistant, says he feels sure Fain has a plan to end the strike.

It is in discussions with GM about the parameters of a deal to include battery plant workers under a master labor agreement. Analysts at Wells Fargo estimated that Ford will lose about $150 million per week in core profit from the Kentucky plant strike. ET (1400 GMT) with fallout still raining down from his surprise decision on Wednesday to strike Ford Motor's (F.N) Kentucky truck plant, the automaker's largest and most profitable operation worldwide. Last Friday, Fain said if needed, the UAW would strike the GM assembly plant in Arlington, Texas, that builds the Cadillac Escalade, Chevy Suburban and other large, high-priced SUVs. GM's Flint, Michigan, heavy-duty truck assembly plant is another potential strike target. It is in discussions with GM about the parameters of a deal to include battery plant workers under a master labor agreement.

Hawley and Vance support striking auto workers, but they're not on the same page as union leadership. AdvertisementAdvertisementAs strikes at auto manufacturing plants continue across the country, some populist-minded Republicans are breaking from their party's long-standing orthodoxies and backing the United Auto Workers' demands. Last week, Fain even slammed Donald Trump as part of the "billionaire class" following the news that the former president would address union workers in Michigan this week. So far, the only company that has figured out how to squeeze consistent profits out of electric cars is Tesla, which does not use more union labor. The union is now aiming to rebuild its reputation and influence in automotive labor and the labor movement writ large.

For the first time in its 88-year history, the UAW is on strike at all three of the Detroit companies at once. "We have a bigger point to make," Wegener said, noting the strike sends a larger message about inequality across the industry. In fact, the United Auto Workers-led strike at the Detroit 3 is shaping up to have an outsized effect on the entire automotive industry. "If the UAW does dig their heels in and does well here, it's highly likely that they will get other auto workers who are not UAW auto workers to be very interested," Ambrose Conroy, CEO of consultancy Seraph, said. Even the branding of the strike, which Fain has called the "Stand Up" strike, is a play on the UAW's highly influential 1937 sit-down strike at GM.

The United Auto Workers strike entered Day 4 on Monday, and both sides remained far apart on pay hikes. By striking Ford, the UAW is "playing with fire," according to Jim, who said the automaker might get tired of trying to appease union demands and just lock workers out. Ford CEO Jim Farley told CNBC last week that UAW demands would bankrupt the company. In addition to top-line pressure on its EV unit and companywide cost pressure from the UAW strike, Ford needs to work its way through this transition from high-profit ICE vehicles to the currently money-losing EVs. The United Auto Workers labor union launched targeted strikes against the three Detroit automakers early Friday morning. It's the first time in history that the UAW has struck all three of the Detroit automakers at once. GM's Cadillac and Chevrolet brands had just 46 days' and 51 days' worth of vehicles, respectively; the Ford brand had 77 days' worth. Historically, the Detroit automakers have tended to have somewhat larger supplies on hand because their full-size pickups are offered in many different configurations. In contrast to the strike against Stellantis, the UAW's strike against Ford could be relatively brief.
