WASHINGTON — Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, plans to spend election night at her alma mater, Howard University in Washington, D.C., according to three people familiar with the planning. One source said the campaign is likely to hold its election night event in the Quad, though the exact location on campus could change. NBC News previously reported that Harris’ campaign was eyeing the university, where Harris obtained her bachelor’s degree, as a potential venue for the vice president's election night headquarters. "I recognize my time at Howard shaped me into the person I am today. She also pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha, the first historically Black sorority, at Howard in 1986.

Beyond the two endorsements Harris received that got national attention, several other local Republicans, from former sheriffs to members of the Legislature, have backed Harris in recent weeks. “I was a Republican even before Donald Trump started spray tanning,” Cheney joked during her first visit last month in Ripon. “Our Republicans for Harris program is taking that unifying, inspiring message to anti-Trump Republicans, moderates, and independents,” Austin Weatherford, the national Republican engagement director for the Harris campaign, said in a statement. Among these voters, Harris gets a boost because they believe she would protect abortion rights, and some have broader hopes that electing the first female president could send a strong message to the country. Across the last three polls, Trump led Harris 50%-40% among those who were confirmed not to have voted in 2022 or 2020.
