SpaceX is set to launch two new crew members to the International Space Station on Saturday, in a capsule that will eventually bring home two NASA astronauts who flew to orbit on Boeing’s problem-plagued Starliner spacecraft. On their return flight back to Earth, NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams will ride with them. After numerous delays, NASA opted to keep the two astronauts at the space station. Originally, the Crew-9 flight was supposed to carry four crew members to the space station, but in order to leave seats open for Wilmore and Williams, two NASA astronauts will have to wait for a future launch. Suni Williams, left, and Butch Wilmore at Space Launch Complex 41 in Cape Canaveral, Fla., on June 5.

The city of Wenchang is home to a rocket launch center – and a tourist industry that caters to a growing interest in space-related tourism. China has made no secret of its desire to develop tourism here, drawing inspiration from Florida’s Cape Canaveral – the launchpad for many famous NASA space missions. From celestial scenes in the corridors to a rocket on the breakfast buffet, the sprawling property is inspired by the nearby Wenchang Launch Center. The growth of China’s space program has fueled more interest in all things aeronautic. “Although it’s my 24th time, maybe, to see the rocket launch, I’m still excited about this,” he told CNN.

CNN —A tiny surgical robot in residence at the International Space Station completed its first surgery demo in zero gravity on Saturday, developers of the technology exclusively told CNN. A robotic tool built for spaceThe robot is only 2 pounds (0.9 kilogram), and its compact microwave-size design makes it a lightweight instrument fit for space travel. SpaceMIRA hitched a ride on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket on January 30 from Florida’s Cape Canaveral Space Force Station and arrived at the space station on February 1. One of the challenges when attempting to control a robot in space from Earth is latency, or the time delay between when the command is sent and the robot receives it. “Five seconds would be an eternity in surgery, and a split second or a half a second is going to be significant.

The giant Texas real-estate firm is betting that companies such as Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin and Elon Musk’s SpaceX and their suppliers will pay high rents for warehouses and manufacturing space close to launch sites that can store rockets, space shuttles, satellites and any parts used to build and maintain them.

(AP) — Astronaut Frank Borman, who commanded Apollo 8's historic Christmas 1968 flight that circled the moon 10 times and paved the way for the lunar landing the next year, has died. Borman also led troubled Eastern Airlines in the 1970s and early '80s after leaving the astronaut corps. He and his crew, James Lovell and William Anders, were the first Apollo mission to fly to the moon — and to see Earth as a distant sphere in space. Astronaut Frank Borman was a true American hero,” NASA Administrator Bill Nelson said in a statement Thursday. In his book, "Countdown: An Autobiography," Borman said Apollo 8 was originally supposed to orbit Earth.

The European Space Agency’s Euclid space telescope launched at 11:12 a.m. The Euclid space telescope is seen right before its installation in the nose of the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket on Tuesday. Investigating cosmic mysteriesEuclid’s primary goal is to observe the “dark side” of the universe, including dark matter and dark energy. While dark matter has never actually been detected, it is believed to make up 85% of the total matter in the universe. Both dark matter and dark energy also play a role in the distribution and movement of objects, such as galaxies and stars, across the cosmos.
