ADDuring my career, I worked on several aircraft projects for Boeing, including the Advanced Tactical Fighter program, the Boeing 777, and the 787 Dreamliner. However, while working on the Boeing 787 program in the 2000s, I noticed that outsourcing manufacturing tasks to suppliers became a really big problem for Boeing. At the same time, the Boeing 787 program was underway. ADBoeing is taking baby steps in the right directionI still know some Boeing employees and followed the recent strike. These promises show that Boeing management is waking up to the matter of outsourcing.

In the worst air crash in South Korean history, 179 people were killed when a Boeing 737-800 belly-landed and skidded off the runway at the Muan International Airport. These incidents came after several fatal crashes involving Boeing jets in recent years, including Boeing planes operated by Indonesia’s Lion Air and Ethiopian Airlines that led to the various aviation authorities issuing grounding orders against specific Boeing jets. The release itself notes both the 53-day strike as well as the Alaska Air incident that kicked off the company’s awful year. Sunday marks the one-year anniversary of the near-catastrophe aboard Alaska Airlines flight 1282 and the company will likely be keen to show its progress in the year since.

Despite the public concern around Boeing, Ferguson doesn’t believe there will be a long-term impact on the company’s reputation, but recognizes there’s still hesitancy with the plane maker.
