A Dallas anesthesiologist was sentenced to 190 years in federal prison in a case where he was convicted of injecting drugs into IV bags, leading to at least one death. He was sentenced in federal court Wednesday to a total of 2,280 months, which the judge ordered to be served consecutively. Doctors began to suspect an issue with the IV bags in August 2022, after a 18-year-old patient’s condition became critical during a routine sinus surgery, prosecutors said. Video presented as evidence also showed Ortiz “repeatedly retrieving IV bags from the warming bin and replacing them” shortly before the bags were taken into surgery, prosecutors said. Doctors testified at the trial, noting that the medical emergencies occurred shortly after new IV bags were hung during the procedures.

WASHINGTON — A Hollywood actor who had supporting roles in "Anchorman," "Mr. Show," "Arrested Development" and "Bob's Burgers" was sentenced to 12 months and a day in federal prison on Monday for his role in the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. In one lawsuit, a Hawaii-based passenger, identified as Jane Doe, is seeking $75,000 in damages from Royal Caribbean. It argues that Royal Caribbean should have foreseen the risk of sexual assault, given the prevalence of such incidents on ships. A man whom authorities named the “Penguin Bandit” was sentenced to more than 13 years in federal prison last week after robbing multiple banks in the Denver, Colorado area. The teller told Ruthstrom that he activated a “distress system” in the cash dispenser which gives out $400 in twenty-dollar bills and triggers a hold-up alarm. According to the complaint, Ruthstrom asked for more money, so the teller did this two more times and gave him a total of $1,200 before he left. The note from the Jan. 18 robbery demanded that the teller give over $10,000 in hundred and fifty dollar bills. Ruthstrom's robbery note from 2043 S. Colorado Blvd on Jan. 18.

WASHINGTON — A Donald Trump supporter who federal authorities say built a giant pro-Trump billboard that the mob of Trump supporters used as a battering ram against police officers during the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol was arrested on Tuesday. Several other Jan. 6 defendants have been charged with using the sign — which read, in all caps, “Trump 2020 Keep America Great.” — as a battering ram during the attack. Jeffrey Newcomb at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, with a banner in the background brought by him. The FBI said Newcomb also wrote that "one of the protesters found the sign[] and put it up on the Capitol. Last week, Trump called Jan. 6 "a day of love" and falsely claimed that his supporters were unarmed.
