The Secret Service denied some of former President Donald Trump's requests for additional security resources over the past two years, an official with the agency confirmed to NBC News. The Secret Service official said extra security accommodations could not always be made for Trump due to the department's limited resources. "In some instances where specific Secret Service specialized units or resources were not provided, the agency made modifications to ensure the security of the protectee," Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi told NBC News. Last Sunday, he said the assertion that the Secret Service had rebuffed Trump's team's requests for additional security were "absolutely false." In the wake of the attempted assassination of Trump, the Secret Service has been under intense scrutiny.

In addition to people who worked directly for Trump, others who participated in Project 2025 were appointed by the former president to independent positions. Several people involved in Project 2025 didn’t serve in the Trump administration but were influential in shaping his first term. Both Trump and Project 2025 have called for eliminating the Department of Education. Vast network of Trump alliesHowever, Trump’s attempts to distance himself from Project 2025 have already encountered credibility challenges. Shortly after Trump’s Truth Social post last week, Democrats noted a recruitment video for Project 2025 features a Trump campaign spokeswoman.

Key lines from CNN’s presidential debate

CNN —In CNN’s presidential debate, President Joe Biden was halting and, at times, trailed off and confused words, feeding a nagging narrative about his fitness for the presidency. Trump said Biden couldn’t drive a golf ball 50 yards, and Biden challenged Trump to a golf match but only if Trump carries his own clubs. We’ve got to take a look at what I was left when I became president, what Mr. Trump left me. -TrumpBiden said Trump deserves blame for watching the riot at the Capitol unfold for hours without doing anything to intervene. They’ve had meetings and they voted who’s the worst president in American history.

Trump and Musk’s growing courtshipFor much of President Biden’s time in the White House, his relations with Elon Musk have been tense. They may be about to plunge to a new low after Biden’s re-election campaign hit out at reports that Donald Trump could make Musk an adviser if the Republican were to win in November. The president’s campaign sees mileage in targeting Trump’s ties to moguls. Musk and Trump met in March at the billionaire investor’s Palm Beach, Fla., estate, where the advisory role discussions took place. Peltz and Musk have also briefed Trump on a plan to invest in a project to prevent the possibility of voter fraud.

If the jury agrees, Trump would become a convicted felon, and could face up to four years in prison. But Trump’s defense attorneys will have much to say Tuesday about the evidence presented by prosecutors in an attempt to avoid that outcome. As to ledgers and invoices keeping track of these checks, Trump is the owner of the organization, not the bookkeeper or finance person. Cohen claims Trump was with the bodyguard at the time, and that he handed Trump the phone. The evidence shows that in order for checks to be issued to Cohen, Trump would have had to give his approval.

CNN —Welcome to week two of the Trump 2016 election interference trial. And the case Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg brought is, at heart, a documents case – Trump has been charged with 34 counts of felony record falsification, actions allegedly taken to cover up hush money payoffs connected to the 2016 election. But as demonstrated by longtime Trump assistant Rhona Graff’s testimony Friday afternoon, the methodical nature of the testimony and evidence doesn’t mean it will be dull for the jury. The testimony of Gary Farro, Cohen’s onetime banker, is emblematic of what we are likely to hear from other witnesses this week. When defense counsel elicited from Graff on cross-examination that Trump was a good boss, she became a free character witness.

This undercuts his recent testimony to state prosecutors in which he said the fake electors were contingent on winning the litigation. Chesebro told Troupis in late 2020 that it was “really not necessary” to link the GOP electors to ongoing litigation. “I have sent it to the White House this afternoon. The real decision makers,” Troupis responded, though he didn’t identify who at the White House received the memo. In the December 6, 2020, memo, Chesebro laid out the plan to put forth slates of Republican electors in seven key swing states that Trump lost, including Wisconsin.

Portions of proffer videos – the legal term for videotaped conversations some of Trump’s co-defendants had with prosecutors – were leaked to several news outlets on Monday. The Fulton County district attorney’s office did not immediately respond to CNN’s request for comment about the emergency protective order or leaked videos. The videos provide some new details about efforts by those close to Trump to reverse the election in his favor. In the months since the motion, the district attorney’s office did not follow up to ask for an official ruling. “Instead, defendants must come to the District Attorney’s Office to view confidential video recordings of proffers.

NEW YORK (AP) — The United Auto Workers' strike is getting bigger. Currently, UAW workers hired after 2007 don’t receive defined-benefit pensions. During walkouts, workers are set to receive about $500 a week in strike pay — far short of what they earn while they’re working. During a 40-day UAW strike in 2019, GM lost $3.6 billion. The UAW strike is also testing President Joe Biden’s claim that he’s the most pro-union president in U.S. history.

But union leaders say Trump's record in the White House speaks for itself. While the United Auto Workers union has withheld an endorsement in the 2024 presidential race, its leadership has repeatedly rebuffed Trump. Despite Trump's history of success in courting blue-collar workers in previous elections, union leaders say their members would do well to believe their own eyes. As president, Trump largely sat on the sidelines during a 40-day walkout at a General Motors plant in 2019. “President Trump has always been on the side of American workers,” his campaign spokesman Steven Cheung said in a statement.

The former president complained that the network's morning show used a big 'orange' photo of him. In response, Trump once again flirted with skipping the first GOP primary debate. Also, they purposely show the absolutely worst pictures of me, especially the big 'orange' one with my chin pulled way back." In the same message, he once again flirted with skipping the first GOP presidential primary debate that Fox is hosting in less than a week. There may be sound bites, there may be elements where 'this is what the leader of the primary says about this issue.'

Clark floats Insurrection Act ideaOn the same day he accepted Trump's job offer, Clark spoke with a deputy White House counsel. "The previous month, the Deputy White House Counsel had informed [Trump] that 'there is no world, there is no option in which you do not leave the White House [o]n January 20th,'" the indictment notes. On Jan. 3, 2021, the counsel tried to dissuade Clark from taking the job as acting AG, the indictment says. Clark responded, "Well, [Deputy White House Counsel], that's why there's an Insurrection Act." Most people recall the “Access Hollywood” tape of Trump using vulgar language to argue that “stars” can grab women. It also adds his Bedminster club to the potential locations where Trump had classified documents after leaving office. In response to the report, a Trump campaign spokesman said “leaks” are meant to “inflame tensions” around Trump. (The document Trump references was not produced by Milley, CNN was told.) Besides the ongoing investigations into the aftermath of the 2020 election, here’s what else is looming over Trump.
