If shoppers already go to Amazon's stores or other places with an Amazon locker, it's quite convenient, said Jeremy Bartlow, a partner and consumer expert at PA Consulting. There's another reason why Amazon would love for you to pick up your Prime Day deals instead of delivering them to your front door: their bottom line. AdvertisementEarlier this year, Amazon offered a discount at Amazon Fresh grocery stores if patrons used one of the supermarkets to return something they bought on Amazon.com, for example. Whole Foods and Fresh Prime customers can also get their groceries selected from the selves and pre-packed for pick-up for free. Rainier...)," Larsen wrote in the email, referring to a snowcapped peak near Seattle, where Amazon is headquartered. Months later, Amazon struck a deal with Shopify that put Buy with Prime on the Shopify merchant marketplace, extending the tool's reach with sellers. Advertisement"When merchants push that metric to >75%, it'll be a good indication that we've found product-market fit," Larsen wrote. To use Buy with Prime, Amazon charges merchants a 3% Prime service fee in addition to fulfillment fees and payment processing fees. However, Piiparinen said the 3% service fee is less than the referral fees merchants pay when selling on Amazon.com.

Amazon is offering Prime members free Grubhub subscriptions in its latest effort to sweeten the perks of the $139-a-year loyalty program. The e-commerce giant previously gave Prime members a yearlong subscription to Grubhub, which includes free delivery on orders over $12. As part of the move, people without Prime can also place Grubhub orders directly through Amazon's website and mobile app. It launched Amazon Restaurants in 2015, allowing Prime members to order meals from local restaurants, which were then delivered by its fleet of drivers. The company shuttered Amazon Restaurants four years later to focus on grocery delivery.

Products are seen at an Amazon fulfillment center where they are being sorted and shipped out as same-day orders during Cyber Monday at the Same-Day Delivery Facility Fulfillment Center in Tampa, Florida, on Nov. 27, 2023. The company has said it wants to make same- and next-day delivery the standard, and it plans to double the number of same-day delivery facilities in the U.S. within the next few years. Amazon has already stood up more than 55 same-day delivery sites in the U.S., primarily clustered around major metro areas. Same-day sites also condense the fulfillment process, typically spread across multiple Amazon facilities under one roof. Amazon has bolstered investment in fast shipping as traditional retail rivals Walmart and Target have stepped up their delivery game.

Just weeks after Amazon cut hundreds of jobs across its Prime Video and MGM Studios divisions, the advertisements officially arrived on Prime Video on Jan. 29. This gives Amazon first-hand customer data from Prime members it can leverage for advertisers who want to show ads during Prime Video shows. "While still early days, streaming TV advertising continues to grow quickly," Jassy said on the fourth-quarter earnings call. Additionally, the potential audience for Prime Video is huge – the company has said it has more than 200 million Prime subscribers. Prime Video keeps putting out new movies and shows like the popular "Lord of the Rings", "Reacher", "Mr. & Mrs. Smith", and "Citadel".

Last June, on a whim, I canceled Amazon Prime. I still regularly buy things from Amazon with free shipping, but I'm happily out on Prime. After canceling Prime, I've been able to reevaluate the necessity of that ultra-fast, free shipping and have found it mostly unneeded. AdvertisementLeaving Prime also meant the end of free Amazon Prime Video, but I've been able to bear it. If Amazon Prime members started reconsidering and discarded the service en masse, it would be trouble for the company.

He said creating different ads for various audiences can be expensive and expects Amazon's AI tools to save money for advertisers. Brendan Witcher, a principal analyst at Forrester, said that Amazon's generative AI ad tool will be "good for attracting and keeping a segment of third-party sellers and brands advertising on Amazon." Other companies including Ascendly Marketing are using generative AI imaging tools that combine pictures of public figures with products. His clients are seeing a bump in sales and Google click-through rates, a trend that Amazon wants to see for its own generative AI ad tools during the holiday season. Analysts expect Amazon's advertising business to earn $14.2 billion during the holiday quarter, up from $11.56 billion a year earlier, according to LSEG estimates.

Amazon's two-day Prime Big Deal Days on Tuesday and Wednesday "outpaced" last year's inaugural "holiday kickoff" event , the company said Thursday. The event is a follow-up to Amazon's main Prime Day sale held in July. In the last two years, however, its market share has flatlined," Lipsman said. Still, Amazon's latest Prime event is "a strong indicator of consumer demand heading into the holiday season," he said. Amazon 's fall Prime deals bonanza "outpaced" last year's event, the company said Thursday, as discount-hungry consumers got an early jump on holiday shopping. It marks the second year Amazon has held the shopping event, which is a fall follow-up to the company's main Prime Day sale held in July. "Prime Big Deal Days was a strong start to the holiday shopping season, offering Prime members an exclusive early opportunity to save and surpassing our expectations," Doug Herrington, CEO of Worldwide Amazon Stores, said in a statement. "This event outpaced last year's holiday kick-off event, with more Prime members shopping this year." Amazon typically uses its discount events for Prime members to run promotions on its devices.

Amazon announced new supply-chain services Tuesday that expand its fulfillment and logistics operations for sales outside of Amazon.com. Amazon has spent billions on its global fulfillment operations, Fulfillment by Amazon, or FBA. "A seller doesn't want to have two sets of supply-chain services, one that's for Amazon and one that's for someone else. For example, it offers multi-channel fulfillment, which enables sellers to use Amazon's services to fulfill customers' orders even if the sale took place off of Amazon. Mehta said that he expects Buy with Prime to "naturally benefit" from Amazon's continued investment in supply chain tools.

Amazon and Shopify announced a new Buy with Prime app for Shopify on Wednesday. Buy with Prime let merchants offer Prime benefits, such as fast shipping and free delivery, on websites beyond Amazon.com. Amazon had no choice but to let Shopify merchants view Buy with Prime-related metrics on its own backend console, not within the unified Shopify Admin tool, according to the internal Amazon document from April. If Buy with Prime data wasn't smoothly integrated into Shopify Admin, Shopify merchants might not use the Amazon feature much. Constant delaysThe internal Amazon document described a Shopify-native Buy with Prime app as a "flagship" goal for Amazon's top leadership because it would make Buy with Prime more appealing to Shopify merchants.

Analysts are increasingly negative on the impact Amazon's Buy with Prime could have on Shopify. Analysts are increasingly worried about the impact that Amazon's Buy with Prime feature could have on Shopify's bottom line. Buy with Prime allows sellers to offer Prime benefits — like fast shipping, free delivery, and free returns — on websites outside of Amazon.com. If Amazon does need Shopify's help, Shopify could theoretically insist that Amazon provide insight about Shopify merchants' Buy with Prime transactions and separate fees from Amazon, the analysts said. "That's why we're working with Amazon to build a direct integration for Shopify merchants using Buy with Prime."
REUTERS/Alyssa PointerLOS ANGELES, March 24 (Reuters) - There is no such thing as free shipping. "The days of free delivery are numbered," Ken Morris, managing partner at Cambridge Retail Advisors, said of the fast-changing retail marketing tool. It is an open secret that most retailers raise product prices to subsidize free shipping. Postal Service hitting record levels, the industry where nearly three-quarters of e-commerce companies offer some sort of free shipping is rethinking the financial cost of habituating shoppers to free shipping. While retailers like Amazon and fashion purveyor Asos Plc (ASOS.L) have raised thresholds for fast shipping, others are dropping free shipping altogether or taking product prices up again.
But many analysts don't think that Buy with Prime is a good thing for Shopify. Shopify executives continued to strike an optimistic tone about Amazon's Buy with Prime feature during the company's fourth-quarter earnings call on Wednesday. Buy with Prime allows sellers to offer Prime benefits — like fast shipping, free delivery, and free returns — on websites outside of Amazon.com. Shopify merchants that try to install it get a pop-up informing them that the checkout feature violates the company's terms of service and could leave their store vulnerable to fraud. Many Shopify merchants choose not to sell their products on Amazon because they want to maintain control over their customer data.
Shopify rolled out the latest iteration of its e-commerce logistics service Thursday. Shopify Logistics is a "port to porch" logistics service for even the smallest merchants. Flexport will allow Shopify merchants to get "front of the line access," to space on container ships they'd struggle to get otherwise, Brown said. Shopify rolled the badge, a direct competitor to Amazon's Prime shipping program and its newer "Buy with Prime" feature, out last year and expanded it to all Shopify sellers Thursday. A lot of e-commerce businesses with good products "flame out" because they simply can't hack the operations, Sauceda said.
Amazon's HR and retail bosses sent out the following emails to employees on Wednesday. In response, Amazon's HR boss Beth Galetti and most senior retail executive Doug Herrington sent out the following emails to their respective teams. I understand how difficult this news is for our entire team, especially for those employees who are directly impacted. Notification emails will be sent out to impacted employees shortly, and we expect all notifications in the U.S., Canada and Costa Rica to be completed by end of the day today. Although other companies might have balked at the short-term economics, we prioritized investing for customers and employees during these unprecedented times.

'Fast furniture' pieces are cheap and easily assembled at home, but they aren't designed to last, experts say. While brands like Ikea and Wayfair offer affordable, easily assembled pieces with fast shipping, experts told The New York Times the "fast furniture" they sell is becoming increasingly detrimental to the environment. "It's quite a big problem, both spatially and also because of the way a lot of fast furniture is made now, it's not just wood and metal. Although getting rid of a couch or coffee table may seem daunting, here are three ways to ethically dispose of your old furniture without harming the planet. Although this option may work best for those with large hauls of old furniture, it's also the priciest option.
