SYDNEY — Australia on Monday approved a United States extradition request for former U.S. Marines pilot Daniel Duggan, who faces charges including breaking U.S. arms control law by training Chinese military pilots to land on aircraft carriers. “Mr Duggan was given the opportunity to provide representations as to why he should not be surrendered to the United States. Duggan, who has six children in Australia and has been held in prison since his arrest, was not available for comment. In 1969, after the federal Fair Housing Act prohibited housing discrimination based on race, Evanston city officials passed local fair housing ordinances. That year, the city set out to create the country’s first reparations program to atone for its history of racial discrimination. She decided to apply to the reparations program when it began offering checks last year. At first, Evanston’s reparations program offered recipients only in-kind financial assistance, which could be used toward mortgage payments, a down payment for a house, or home improvement projects. Robin Rue Simmons said the reparations program had to be created from the ground up.

I was raised in a frugal household where the number of Christmas gifts was limited. My sister and I loved traditions that didn't cost much — even recycling our paper advent calendar. Now that I'm a mom of two, I find it difficult to watch my kids open lots of presents. Our thrifty grandma recycled wrapping paperOur grandmother, whom we affectionately called "nanny," took things to extremes. She'd iron the wrapping paper afterwards before folding it and stashing it in a cupboard for the following year.

Americans will likely be greeted by the lowest Christmas Day gas prices since 2020 during the pandemic, according to GasBuddy, an app that crowd-sources pump prices. GasBuddy told CNN it expects gas prices will average $3.01 a gallon nationally on Christmas Day. That would represent a modest dip from $3.10 last year and the Christmas Day record of $3.26 in 2021. Travel slowed sharply in 2020 due to the pandemic, keeping gas prices very low. However, a surprise increase in gas prices in recent days, primarily in the Great Lakes region, prompted De Haan to revise his initial forecast higher.

But the British monarch opted to film this year’s message at Fitzrovia Chapel in central London, which was previously a hospital chapel before it was demolished in 1924. Buckingham Palace confirmed the location on Monday afternoon after it was first reported by The Daily Telegraph. I love the holiday season, but there are some things about it that stress me out. In the past, I've found myself doing too much and saying "yes" to too many things. I love visiting with family and friends, gift-giving, and all that comes with the holiday season. I'm saying "no" to hours of travel time this year, and we're staying home for Christmas. But still, over the years — even as I've created more boundaries around travel — I've gotten in the habit of doing too much, and it's affected my ability to enjoy the holiday season.

London CNN —King Charles III has ended royal warrants for Cadbury and Unilever, which owns brands including Marmite and Ben & Jerry’s, in a blow to the household names. Charles announced the second set of warrants of his reign late last week, recognizing the included brands and companies as royal suppliers and allowing them to feature the Royal Arms on their packaging. No reason was given for the discontinuation of the pair’s warrants, as per royal protocol. More than 500 brands and companies now hold warrants, according to the Royal Warrant Holders Association. Activist group B4Ukraine wrote an open letter addressed to Charles in June, urging him to drop companies including Mondelez and Unilever from the royal warrants list.

Brisbane, Australia CNN —A former US Marine accused of training Chinese military pilots will be extradited to face charges in the United States, Australia’s Attorney General confirmed Monday, dealing a blow to supporters who have mounted a public campaign for his freedom. Daniel Duggan, a naturalized Australian, was arrested in the state of New South Wales in 2022 based on a 2017 US grand jury indictment that accuses him of training Chinese military pilots in violation of a US arms embargo. Duggan denies the charges, claiming that US officials knew about his activities and that he was only training civilian pilots as China’s aviation sector boomed. In a statement to CNN in 2023, TFASA said it complies with the laws of every jurisdiction in which it operates. Since then, the UK and Australia have tightened their laws surrounding former military personnel and their post-service activities.
