AdvertisementFrom former first lady Michelle Obama to supermodel Bella Hadid, celebrities are piling into the soda business. Poppi and Olipop, two of the most popular prebiotic soda brands, have exploded in popularity since 2020. Just as social media helped celebrity makeup lines sell, Falorni said their drink brands have the same potential. When it comes to celebrity beauty and wellness brands, Contois said people usually hope there's a "magical elixir" that will elevate their own life. Famous booze-free beverage founders could also follow the well-trodden path of celebs creating alcoholic drink brands and then selling them for a lot of cash.

As the fourth quarter gets underway, there are some stocks that may be poised to outperform over the next several months, according to Citi. "Now, broadening is apparent, with Value leading while Growth has not yet achieved July levels," Scott Chronert said in a Friday note to clients. Citi views newly added Ally Financial as "one of the best-positioned liability sensitive names," seeing the potential for total book value growth of 25% by the fourth quarter of next year. "While mistakes were clearly made with the '22 auto vintage, the short duration of this asset class implies ALLY will not be stuck with the problem beyond 2025," analyst Keith Horowitz wrote. Meanwhile, Citi has a buy rating on the stock, and its price target of $50 implies nearly 45% upside from Wednesday's close.

Beverage analysts don't see a threat to diet soda makers from the World Health Organization's recent warning on artificial sweetener aspartame. But giants in the beverage industry that use aspartame, including Coca-Cola and Pepsi , are so far unfazed. Because the WHO didn't change the consumption limit on aspartame products, the new findings aren't likely to threaten soft drink makers, according to Citi analyst Filippo Falorni. For example, the WHO's says an adult weighing around 154 pounds should drink no more than 14 cans of diet soda each day to avoid health concerns. Coca-Cola is a stronger company post-Covid, according to Citi. Analyst Filippo Falorni named Coca-Cola as one of his top buy-rated picks in the U.S. beverages and household products sector. He added that the beverage giant "can navigate well through weaker macro conditions, and/or offer compelling long-term growth stories" at a reasonable valuation. "KO has emerged as a stronger company post-COVID with a more effective networked organizational model aiding market share gains and innovation, and an improved margin structure with a more efficient advertising spend," Falorni wrote. We view KO's valuation close to the average of mega-cap peers as compelling given a stronger topline growth and higher margin profile."
