CNN —While there are still five weeks until Election Day, voting is already underway across the country and a CNN review suggests pre-election voting this year will drop from the pandemic-era highs of 2020. That’s a tiny fraction of the roughly 158 million votes cast for president in the 2020 election. The downtick in interest in early voting so far shouldn’t be surprising. The 2020 election featured historic levels of pre-election voting during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, at the same point in the 2020 election, Democrats accounted for 66% of all ballot requests, while Republicans accounted for 24%.

Escalating threat of warA Lebanese army soldier sits behind a weapon atop an armored personnel carrier in Beirut's southern suburb. Bilal Hussein/APHezbollah and Israel have been trading fire across the southern Lebanese border for nearly a year amid the ongoing war in Gaza. Last Tuesday, Hezbollah pagers and handheld radios mysteriously exploded, killing more than three dozen people — two of whom were children — and injuring about 3,000 with ties to Hezbollah operations. The militant group accused Israel of the communication-devices-turned-bombs, but Israel denied any involvement. However, US officials told The New York Times that Israel hid explosive material within Taiwanese-made pagers imported into Lebanon, with a switch that could remotely detonate them.

Pitching the C-390 in the USA C-390 aircraft flies during an air show. Pete Syme/Business InsiderWhile there haven't been any public negotiations by the Pentagon to add any C-390s to its fleet, Embraer has made moves to pitch the plane to the US market. In an inaugural visit earlier this year, the Brazilian defense firm showcased the C-390 at its facilities in Melbourne, Florida, to "an important and diverse audience," the company said in a March statement. According to a press release, the event hosted a "diverse guest list of government authorities, military officials, prospects, and partners" and featured the A-29 Super Tucano, a turboprop light attack aircraft flown by some South American militaries. The Embraer president da Costa Jr. said the A-29 was built "just hours away in Jacksonville, Florida," hinting that the C-390 could be manufactured in the US as well — a common requirement for foreign aircraft operated by the US military.

The IDF described the Iron Dome with three adjectives: "accuracy, speed, and capacity." Armed with Tamir interceptor missiles, the multi-mission defense system can shoot down enemy rockets and artillery up to 43.5 miles away. The advanced missile system has a radar station that detects and tracks the course of enemy rockets before launching a missile to intercept it.
