A reward of up to $500,000 is available for information leading to the suspect’s arrest and conviction. The announcement came just hours after congressional Republicans released a report lamenting the fact that the FBI had not yet identified a suspect. The suspect placed pipe bombs in a Capitol Hill neighborhood near the RNC and the DNC on Jan. 5, 2021, between approximately 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. the night before the Capitol riot. The FBI has said the pipe bombs, which were discovered 15 hours after they were placed, were viable devices, or real bombs that could have seriously injured or killed innocent bystanders. “That’s, again, why we’re releasing new information, not just asking the public to help us with tips, but releasing new information to help them realize what might be important.

Months later, Vargas began to reveal her more far-right politics and her interest in Hitler's "Mein Kampf," the designer told the outlet. The designer told the outlet his "heart hurts" for Vargas but also found humor in the situation. "It's just going to be one of those things for me," the designer told NBC News.
But the federal investigation has been strained, spread thin and strapped for resources as a sometimes less-than-agile federal bureaucracy adapts to the overwhelming scope of the caseload. While the FBI arrested more than 700 defendants in the first year of the investigation, it arrested about 200 in the second. Online sleuths have done their best to bust those myths, too. “That was it.”The Sedition Hunters website features images of people online sleuths say took part in the Jan. 6 attack, including many (in blue) who have been identified. Some charging documents in Jan. 6 cases make the role that online sleuths played clear.
