CNN —Xander Schauffele capitalized on Wyndham Clark splashing a horror shot into the waters of the fabled 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass to nudge into a one stroke lead and tee up a grandstand finish at The Players Championship. “Why would you not tee the ball up when you can?” questioned Sky Sports Golf broadcaster Ewen Murray. Clark became the latest golfer to fall foul to the 17th hole. After matching Schauffele’s par at the last hole to sign off his two-under 70 round, Clark remains within striking distance of the $4.5 million winner’s purse. Having battled through a neck injury for most of his second round, Scheffler shot 68 as he bids to become the first golfer to ever win back-to-back Players titles.

Ewen MacIntosh, a British actor and comedian known for his dry portrayal of Keith Bishop, a lackluster accountant in the acclaimed British sitcom, “The Office,” has died. He died on Monday, his management company, Just Right Management, said, but it did not give a cause of death. The company said in a social media post that Mr. MacIntosh received support from a care home before he died. Mr. MacIntosh had parts in several comedic series, including the British sitcom “Miranda” and the sketch series “Little Britain.” But it was “The Office” that would be his most famous role, as a socially inept accountant working at a boring branch of a paper company. It included two series and a Christmas special, and its comedic approach was praised by critics and audiences alike.

A Rolls Royce jet engine on display at the Rolls-Royce aircraft jet engine production and repair facility in Blankenfelde on February 28, 2023 near Berlin, Germany. The British aerospace and defense company's financial performance has been transformed, thanks to a turnaround plan led by its CEO Tufan Erginbilgic, who took the job in January. Its soaring stock price suggests that the markets have dismissed criticism of its jet engines by Emirates Airline President Tim Clark at the Dubai Airshow this week. The comments were directed at Rolls-Royce's Trent XWB-84 engines used on the Airbus A350-900 passenger jet. Rolls-Royce later pushed back against the criticism, saying in a statement that the A350-900′s XWB-84 engine "is the best engine out there when you look at efficiency, durability and reliability."

Given record-high interest rates, now is not the time to be taking on more credit card debt. The Federal Reserve is expected to further hike interest rates before the end of the year, and the average credit card interest rate is already at an all-time high. Automated payment options can help credit card holders bypass late payment fees. "You can set it up for a lower payment," said Sara Rathner, credit cards expert and writer at NerdWallet, referring to a monthly automated card payment. "There's no penalty charge on your card if you pay your statement balance before the due date," Ewen added.

Using foreign money wisely requires understanding the going exchange rate with the U. S. dollar and practicing the following strategies to avoid excessive fees. Take a card that doesn’t charge transaction feesThe primary rule of managing purchases abroad is ensuring you are not using a credit card that charges foreign transaction fees. You don’t need an expensive card with a $500-or-more annual fee to have foreign transaction charges waived. Capital One offers cards with no annual fees or foreign transaction charges. The personal finance website NerdWallet maintains a list of credit cards that don’t charge a fee for foreign transactions.

Esopus, West Park and Ulster Park are known for expensive homes, including turn-of-the-century mansions, on parklike grounds overlooking the Hudson, along with several monasteries and other religious institutions that have helped shield the river’s west bank from development. There are antique stone houses along the Rondout Creek in the hamlet of St. Remy, and along the Wallkill River in the hamlet of Rifton and Black Creek in Esopus. The town’s other small hamlets are Connelly, which borders the Rondout Creek, and Sleightsburgh, whose peninsula-shaped park juts out into the Hudson. (Three additional hamlets are listed on the town’s website, but according to the town’s supervisor, Danielle Freer, they are now obsolete.) The West Park venue occupies a 24,000-square-foot antique Italian-style villa and an adjoining brick building that had housed a Christian Brothers monastery for a century.

Europe's biggest bank has taken a $300 million loss on the expected sale of the business, HSBC said as it reported its annual results for 2022. HSBC said in July last year the deal was pending approval from Russia's government and regulators, shortly before Deputy Finance Minister Alexei Moiseev said Russia would block the sale of foreign banks' Russian businesses. Credit Suisse last July was banned from disposing of shares in its Russian unit by a Moscow court which also ordered the seizure of 10 million euros ($10.7 million) from the Swiss bank. HSBC's operations in Russia consisted of a corporate banking business which offered a range of lending and investment banking services to domestic and multinational customers. It employed around 200 people on the eve of Russia's invasion, HSBC Chief Financial Officer Ewen Stevenson said at the time.

LONDON— HSBC Holdings PLC’s chief financial officer decided to leave the company after becoming impatient with the timetable for the chief executive job to open up, according to people familiar with the matter. Ewen Stevenson , 56 years old, in recent months told board members he wanted to be HSBC’s CEO and didn’t want to wait too long, the people familiar with the matter said. The board was unwilling to provide timing for a change or an assurance that Mr. Stevenson would get the job, the people said. CEO Noel Quinn has said he plans to stay for several more years.
[1/2] Chief Financial Officer of HSBC Georges Elhedery poses for a photo in this undated handout picture. It’s also surprised investors and raised questions about HSBC’s direction. Known at HSBC (HSBA.L) for his strategic vision more than for his accounting skills, Elhedery has climbed the ranks of HSBC’s investment bank since joining in 2005. "It was a surprise to us,” said Hugh Young, Asia chairman of Aberdeen Standard Investments, one of HSBC's top 25 shareholders. CEO Noel Quinn has done a good job but investors are impatient for faster progress, Young said.

Shares of Hong Kong-listed HSBC, which makes the bulk of its sales and profit in Asia, fell 2.5% in a firm broader market (.HSI). "This is about how the group executive committee is positioned with potential succession options for the future," Quinn told Reuters.
HSBC Holdings PLC reported a 46% drop in third-quarter profit and named a veteran banker as its new chief financial officer, putting him in the mix as a possible successor to the top job at the global banking giant. The bank has appointed Georges Elhedery , 48 years old, as its new finance chief. He is replacing Ewen Stevenson , who is stepping down from the job at the end of the year and leaving the bank in April. HSBC Chief Executive Noel Quinn called Mr. Elhedery “an exceptional leader” in a statement.

LONDON, Oct 25 (Reuters Breakingviews) - HSBC (HSBA.L), (0005.HK) boss Noel Quinn is getting rid of a cost-cutting finance chief, Ewen Stevenson, while his skills are still in need. The former Royal Bank of Scotland chief financial officer and Credit Suisse (CSGN.S) banker only started as HSBC CFO in January 2019. HSBC has so far managed to axe about $4.9 billion of gross annual expenses under a programme launched in early 2020.
