This story is available exclusively to Business Insider subscribers. "I don't think there's any place where we are seeing significant price reductions," Realtor.com data journalist Evan Wyloge told Business Insider. "A lot of this list has to do with the baked-in affordability for some of these places." Not a single West Coast city cracked the top ten — simply because there are no affordable pockets out West, Wyloge said. Realtor.com scoured the US to find the most affordable cities and ranked them by how many listings they had under $200,000 — excluding land, mobile homes, and cities with less than 100 listings.

In four southern metros home prices fell over 1% in September, per Realtor.com. Houston, Memphis, Raleigh, and San Antonio had experienced high home prices as people moved there. Those locations have more homes for sale than in other places, so buyers have more power. It's an interesting moment in which several cities are boasting housing deals not seen in years. However, for those who can still afford a home purchase, there is some good news — the real estate market is becoming less competitive. With less Americans purchasing homes, prospective buyers are finally beginning to see home price declines in cities across the country — some more than others. To determine what markets present a good deal for homebuyers, Realtor.com analyzed housing data from the nation's 250 largest cities. Its researchers were able to identify that several cities across the country are softening for homebuyers.
