"We have increased our bets on inflation," he told CNBC's Leslie Picker at CNBC's Delivering Alpha investor summit on Wednesday. "We will have another inflection up in inflation," he said. "The policy mix being proposed is inflationary and we will see more of that over the next few years." The latest CPI data released Wednesday showed inflation in line with market expectations, at 2.6%. There is an argument for tolerating it and trying to run the economy as hot as possible.

One of the surest bets when the Federal Reserve began cutting interest rates was for bond prices to rise while yields came under pressure, but that hasn't played out according to plan. This market, which has defied so many historical patterns, has kept the pressure on bond yields up due to a variety of factors, including more persistent concerns about the federal deficit. But her bigger concern remains on the bond side of the markets. She said investors will be "more wary" given the election rally and the pulling forward of expectations about tax cuts and regulation and expectations they will contribute to growth. But it is in the bond market where investors should expect even more volatility.

"Look at which tax cuts were getting the most focus on the campaign trail. A traditional GOP tax policy might be thought of as favoring business tax cuts. "The top priority is extending the Trump tax cuts and the signature part of his program. Notably, House Speaker Mike Johnson has voiced support for the traditional view of funding tax cuts through economic growth. Individual tax cuts versus Social Security, business tax breaksHistory shows that when it comes to the battle between individual and business tax cuts, contrary to popular perception, individual tax issues are always politically dominant issue.

Silver told Fortt that his current model shows the odds favoring Trump, who holds a 55% to 45% win probability advantage over Harris. Most people no longer even have the landline phones which past election cycle polling history relied on. Why the betting markets may be all 'vibe and chatter'The betting markets show a much bigger edge for Trump, with major wagers placed on Polymarket, Robinhood jumping into the action, and presidential election contracts surging in popularity. Critics have raised concerns that the election betting markets are potentially being manipulated. But Silver, who is a consultant to one of the leading prediction markets, Polymarket, says he wouldn't pay much attention to the betting markets data right now, as they simply may not be very accurate at this moment in the election cycle.

When asked whether it's been worth the cost ( $30 monthly per user in the case of Copilot), tech leaders say they aren't sure. According to recent Deloitte research, two-thirds of organizations are increasing gen AI investments based on "strong early value to date." There are multiple reasons why companies will still be short on confidence when it comes to enterprise AI adoption, according to Deloitte. The Azure cloud offering from its biggest AI partner and AI investment, OpenAI, is in use at nearly two-thirds of companies. Forty-six percent of CNBC survey respondents said that within their organizations at least half of employees are now using AI.

"Everyone has that problem in industrials," he said at the recent CNBC Evolve AI Opportunity event. The Google AI will offer images, videos, text and sensor readings to engineers. According to Honeywell data, 82% of companies in the industrial sector that consider themselves AI leaders are behind on adoption, with only 17% having fully launched initial AI plans. Siemens and Microsoft announced a gen AI deal for the industrial sector late last year, which included an AI copilot for use across industries. American Water , the largest water utility in the U.S., disclosed that it had been hit by a cyberattack. Hacks targeting U.S. water infrastructure, in particular, have been increasing, with some of the attacks linked to geopolitical rivals of the U.S., including Iran, Russia and China. "All drinking water and wastewater systems are at risk — large and small, urban and rural," an EPA spokesman recently told CNBC. American Water provides drinking water and wastewater services to more than 14 million people with regulated operations in 14 states and on 18 military installations. It said turning off customer systems was intended to protect data, though it added that it is too soon to know whether any customer information is at risk.

A majority of chief financial officers (55%) say Harris will win the election, according to the Q3 CNBC CFO Council Survey. That's a reversal from the prior CFO survey in Q2 (when President Joe Biden was still the candidate) and a majority of CFOs (58%) believed Trump would win. In the Q2 CFO survey, 29% of executives said they were unsure who would win. The majority belief that Harris will win comes despite an equal majority of CFOs (55%) telling the survey that Trump is better on inflation and for the economy. The CNBC CFO Council Survey was conducted between August 19 and September 19, a period which included the presidential debate.

Fears among top corporate CFOs about shaky consumer demand have hit a six-quarter higher, according to the latest CNBC CFO Council survey, with the Q2 survey the first time since the beginning of 2023 that over half of CFOs cited consumer demand as the biggest external risk to their business. Consumer demand fears among CFOs have been rising in recent quarters, and match evidence from the market across sectors, with fast-food chains rushing out value menus and car dealers having more difficulty moving inventory. The 54% of CFOs who cited consumer demand as the biggest risk is up from 18% a year ago, and 37% last quarter. Last quarter, almost half of CFOs forecast a 10-year yield that would dip below 4% by the end of the year. But now, CFOs have pushed out their inflation view even further.

Among companies spending on AI, roughly four times as many are investing in employee-facing AI projects rather than customer apps, the survey also found. Sixty percent of the select group of companies responding to the survey described generative AI as critically important to their business, and artificial intelligence is the single-largest technology spending budget line item for the next year at 44% of companies. Cleaning up the vast amount of data already stored on a corporate enterprise is a process that could take a few years. "A lot of the spending on gen AI today does feel like it's more about prioritizing spending ... clients are focused on transforming using technology, data and AI, so a lot of what's driving our sales is getting ready for AI. We're seeing a lot of modern platforms being put in place because if you can't access your data, you're not going to be able to take advantage of AI," Sweet said.

Khan recently told CNBC that its AI tool will expand from 65,000 students to one million students next year. It also recently announced that Microsoft is paying so that AI can be offered to teachers across the U.S. free of charge. In fact, teachers were the only demographic polled where year-over-year favorability declined, though a majority (59%) still have a positive view of AI chatbots. Minority groups are adopting AI for education at higher rates, including the teachers and parents who are using AI to help children. Black and Hispanic K-12 students and undergraduates were more likely to use AI for school.

The company's goal is to add 10,000 bidirectional EV school buses across the U.S. with 300 gigawatt hours of energy available to power grids each year. In effect, instead of the one-way charge into the vehicle, the school buses will be able to send their battery power back to the grid through Zum charging infrastructure. The roughly 500,000 school buses are mostly diesel, contributing to emissions. Ram Ambatipudi, senior vice president of business development at EV Connect, which provides EV charging solutions, said the school bus model is one of the most promising in the area of using EV battery storage in a bidirectional nature. "The low-hanging fruit from what I've seen is the school bus model," Ambatipudi said.

Office politics have always been a point of frustration for workers, but now it's politics in the office that's getting to many American workers. In an era during which more workers have felt emboldened to challenge bosses over politics — with the recent Google worker protests and arrests a prime example — just under half of American workers polled by CNBC and SurveyMonkey say they would support a ban on political conversations at work. Younger workers show less hesitancy toward political discussions, with 41% of Gen Z workers saying they would choose to bar any political discussions at work. That's lower than millennial workers (46%), Gen X workers (52%), and boomers (49%). The CNBC | SurveyMonkey online poll was conducted April 3-5 among a national sample of 5,993 workers in the United States.

"Child care is core to enabling women to work," she said. She explained that if she stayed in her career, her entire post-tax pay would have gone to child care, and all of the child care providers in her area were waitlisted. I didn't really go through this, so how many people are really thinking child care is an issue? Raimondo noted that half of Americans live in a "child care desert," with not enough services available at a cost that is affordable.

Einride plans to open many EV charging stations for freight trucking on the West and East coasts, though California is the only state in which there are any EV freight charging stations of scale today. Voltera, which develops, owns and operates EV infrastructure, said the site was permitted, built, electrified and operational in under 18 months. "In the world of charging infrastructure, that's pretty remarkable," its CEO Matt Horton said in a statement. One of the first EV charging stations of scale for freight trucks is opening near the major ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, California, as the trucking market takes some limited, but significant steps to build the infrastructure required for a long-term transition to EV trucking and net-zero shipping. Additional EV charging projects at ports in New York and New Jersey, as well as the Pacific Northwest, are planned.

The percentage of CFOs who think the Fed will be able to achieve a soft landing has reached a five-quarter high, at 48%. According to the Q1 survey, the largest percentage of CFO respondents (44%) do not expect a rate cut until September. In the Q1 CFO survey, equal groups of just under 25% of CFO respondents think the cuts will begin in June or July. Microsoft has pointed to customers including Visa, BP, Honda and Pfizer using Copilot, and professional services firm partners on Copilot AI including Accenture, EY, KPMG, and PwC. And even amid the hype, it's important to keep in mind that as gen AI spending grows, it is still dwarfed by companies' cybersecurity budget needs.
