A baby mammoth that lay almost perfectly preserved for 50,000 years in the now-melting permafrost of eastern Siberia has been unveiled by a team of scientists. The carcass of the baby mammoth, dubbed “Yana” after the Yana River basin where it was found in eastern Siberia, Russia, was unveiled by researchers on Monday. It was only the seventh baby mammoth carcass discovered globally — six in Russia and one in Canada. The mammoth is 4 feet tall, weighs about 400 pounds and is less than 6.6 feet long, according to the press release. Researchers Gavril Novgorodov and Erel Struchkov pose next to the remains of a baby mammoth discovered in June.

CNN —Russian scientists presented the carcass of a baby mammoth, whose incredibly well-preserved remains were found in the Siberian region of Yakutia in June after more than 50,000 years. The carcass of the female juvenile mammoth, nicknamed Yana, was discovered by local residents after a permafrost crater expanded, according to Russian state media outlet TASS. According to Cheprasov, the baby mammoth was about one-year-old when it died and weighed around 397 pounds [180 kilograms]. The cost to Israel's economy of its war with Hamas militants will be unlike anything it has experienced in decades. "This is not a hit for contractors or industrialists alone," said Raul Sarugo, president of the Israel Builders' Association. Israel was blindsided on Oct. 7 by Hamas gunmen from Gaza who rampaged through border towns in the deadliest attack on civilians in its history. The conflict has also halted the movement of thousands of Palestinian labourers from Gaza to Israel and curtailed the flow from the occupied West Bank. The Economy Ministry created a war room and put out a call for help.

BATAGAI, Russia, July 21 (Reuters) - Stunning drone footage has revealed details of the Batagaika crater, a one kilometre long gash in Russia's Far East that forms the world's biggest permafrost crater. "We locals call it 'the cave-in,'" local resident and crater explorer Erel Struchkov told Reuters as he stood on the crater's rim. The "gateway to the underworld," as some locals in Russia's Sakha Republic also call it, has a scientific name: a mega-slump. "In future, with increasing temperatures and with higher anthropogenic pressure, we will see more and more of those mega-slumps forming, until all the permafrost is gone," Tananayev told Reuters. "With an increasing air temperature we can expect (the crater) will be expanding at a higher rate," he said.

A key driver of economic growth in Israel, the tech sector saw its funding hit last year by the global economic slowdown. "The big inventors are the warriors of democracy," Margalit told Reuters on the sidelines of a JVP Climate Tech conference. While the tech sector needs a stable Israeli economy, the economy needs a strong tech sector, which accounts for 14% of jobs and almost a fifth of gross domestic product. The fall off in tech funding has been a major factor in the weakening of the shekel , analysts say.

And weakens the pillars that hold our nation together,” Israel’s President Isaac Herzog warned this week in a speech to Jewish groups. The legislation has plunged Israel into the largest and longest protest movement in the country’s history. Frozen peace processBut as Israel celebrates 75 years since its founding with fanfare, Palestinians mark the same event with mourning. It was during the Jewish state’s creation that more than 700,000 Palestinians were forced to flee their homes in what is now Israel. “This is the end of the era of limited conflicts,” Gallant told reporters, according to the Times of Israel.
