Marvell Technology forecast first-quarter results below market expectations on Thursday, hurt by weak demand for its custom chips used in artificial intelligence applications, sending the company's shares down about 8% in extended trade. The company had flagged in November that it expects roughly half its revenue to decline in the first quarter, weighed down by weak demand in its wireless carrier and enterprise markets. The company forecast first-quarter adjusted earnings per share of 23 cents, plus or minus 5 cents, compared with estimates of 40 cents per share, according to LSEG data. The company reported fourth-quarter revenue of $1.43 billion, beating estimates of $1.42 billion, on the back of rapid adoption of artificial intelligence.

Marvell's shares get AI boost a day after Nvidia's surge

May 26 (Reuters) - Shares of Marvell Technology soared about 23% on Friday after the chipmaker became the latest to project a big surge in revenue from the AI boom, days after larger peer Nvidia Corp (NVDA.O) signaled the huge potential for the technology. The gains were set to add nearly $10 billion to Marvell's market value as investors chase exposure to AI to counter weakness in many technology companies' traditional services and products. At least 17 brokerages raised their price targets on Marvell, taking the median price target to $65, implying a 31% upside to the stock's last close. The brokerage expects a demand boost from areas such as 5G, auto and AI-based products to offset weakness in enterprise networking, wired carrier and legacy data centers. Major cloud computing players Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O) and Alphabet Inc (GOOGL.O) are adding the latest AI technology to their products in hopes of boosting demand at a time the weak economy has been a drag on their growth.
The companies are rated buy by at least 70% of the analysts covering them. Cabot, which yields 2.1%, has nearly 22% upside to the average price target. First Merchants, along with its 3.1% yield, has nearly 18% upside to its consensus price target. Of all names on the list, Broadcom has the highest dividend yield, at 3.2%. Lastly, payments company Visa has an 0.8% dividend yield and 12% upside, based on the consensus price target.

The company said the restructuring plan will begin in the second quarter of fiscal year 2023. The company will talk to its employees on Thursday about the restructuring plan, Chief Executive Chuck Robbins said in a post-earnings call. Cisco said it expects an annual revenue growth of 4.5% to 6.5%, and adjusted earnings between $3.51 and $3.58.
Ukraine has accused Russia of deploying missiles made by MMZ Avangard against ground targets since Russia launched what it terms its "special operation" on Feb. 24. "Extreme equipment is used on Russian warships," the complaint said, "in communications systems." "It was necessary to use a cover because the Russian company is blacklisted in the U.S.," one of the people familiar with the shipments said. The executive said he had never heard of Extreme or of DEMZ buying Extreme equipment for itself or on behalf of others. Like MMZ Avangard, United Shipbuilding has been listed as a "blocked" entity by the U.S. Treasury since July 2014.
