Trump ejected Ramos from a press conference after the journalist confronted him over his immigration policy. In 2020, the Trump campaign derided Univision as “a mouthpiece” for the Democratic Party. A group of influential Latino organizations penned an open letter expressing “deep concern” over the Trump interview. Acevedo’s interview with Trump was the first time in 22 years a current or former Republican president sat with the network for an interview. Wade Davis, Univision’s CEO until last month, defended Univision’s approach in a memo shortly after the Trump interview last year.

CNN —Former President Donald Trump on Wednesday repeated his false claim that Haitian migrants in Springfield, Ohio, are eating their neighbors’ pets, using a town hall with undecided Latino voters to prop up misinformation that has been rejected by local and statewide leaders from both parties. Trump has made inroads with Hispanic voters, but Vice President Kamala Harris still has an advantage – albeit slimmer than Joe Biden’s in 2020 – with that demographic. The former president on Wednesday largely ignored the detailed questions from the audience, frequently pivoting to attacks on undocumented immigrants. Trump did not respond directly, but – after acknowledging he’s never been to the city – said he is planning a visit. “We had the strongest border we’ve ever had in the history, recorded history of our country,” Trump said when questioned about his border plan.

The Trump campaign had pounced on Harris’ comments Tuesday on ABC's "The View" that "there’s not a thing that comes to mind" when she was asked what she would have done differently from Biden during his term. The Trump campaign also cut a video interspersing Harris’ quote with news clips about the widely criticized withdrawal from Afghanistan and crime connected to migrants, as well as inflation. She said the legislation would have added 1,500 more border agents, "except Donald Trump got in the way of that bill." Harris took nearly a dozen questions from audience members at the town hall, which was moderated by journalist Enrique Acevedo, about issues from abortion to the cost of living. Biden won the state in 2020 with 50.1% of the vote to Trump's 47.7%.

Washington CNN —Former President Donald Trump falsely claimed at a Friday rally that Vice President Kamala Harris used a teleprompter during her Univision town hall on Thursday. Trump said at the Friday rally in Aurora, Colorado: “Did you see where she did a town hall yesterday and she used a teleprompter? The teleprompter that displays a text written in Spanish was a support element for the town hall moderator. Last month, he falsely claimed that Harris used notes in a televised interview with CNN. The right-wing commentators’ inaccurate posts claiming Harris used a teleprompter at the Univision town hall relied on a 12-second clip that was posted Thursday by the Trump campaign’s “Trump War Room” account.

New York CNN —Univision will not fact check Vice President Kamala Harris or former President Donald Trump on stage during their respective town halls, the Spanish language network confirmed to CNN. A TelevisaUnivision spokesperson told CNN the fact checking decision was not a condition for any candidate’s participation. Fact checking has become a major sticking point during the 2024 election, with both Trump and his running-mate Sen. J.D. Acevedo’s interview with Trump in November stunned many inside and outside the network for its softer approach and lack of fact checks. “These town halls are offering Latino voters an unprecedented opportunity to talk to the candidates.

CNN —Two mistakes from Italy star Gianluigi Donnarumma proved decisive on Tuesday night as Arsenal claimed a 2-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. In the 20th minute, Donnarumma left his goal line to attempt to punch clear a cross from Leandro Trossard, but he was beaten to the ball by Havertz, who headed into the empty net. But Arsenal would double its lead in the 35th minute when Saka sent a curling free kick into the box. Gabriel Martinelli and Thomas Partey missed the ball, but so did Donnarumma and the cross found its way into his net. Hong Kong CNN —The Philippines has accused China’s Coast Guard of launching a “brutal assault” with bladed weapons during a South China Sea clash earlier this week, a major escalation in a festering dispute that threatens to drag the United States into another global conflict. CNN —French soccer superstar Kylian Mbappé said that there were “things and people that made me unhappy” during his final season at Paris Saint-Germain, in his first comments since his blockbuster move to Real Madrid. Mbappé was speaking at a media conference on Tuesday ahead of France’s friendly against Luxembourg and stressed that his long-expected move to Madrid was a “relief,” while also adding that his final season in Paris was filled with mixed emotions. While saying in general that he was happy in his final season, he went to detail one aspect that did make him unhappy. But his final season in Paris was overshadowed by speculation around his future. “I wish him all the best,” told CNN Sport’s Amanda Davies at the Globe Soccer Awards Forum in Sardinia, Italy.

The Spanish-language TV network Univision is now being pounded for running an interview with Donald Trump that failed to include the type of resistance hostility that Democrats think will shore up Hispanic voters. A network executive might even get called to Capitol Hill. Univision’s hour-long interview at Mar-a-Lago, conducted by the Mexico City-based journalist Enrique Acevedo , was not particularly enlightening.

Vox has strongly opposed LGBTQ+ rights. Both Vox and the PP have promised to take action against some pro-LGBTQ+ measures passed by the left-wing government. Spain is fourth in the ranking of European countries' LGBTQ+ rights by advocacy group ILGA-Europe, but LGBTQ+ activists said a PP-Vox government would roll back their rights. This is one of the reasons why Derbez is telling the story of a fictional resort using both English and Spanish. “I was always criticizing movies where I was seeing 007 (referring to the character James Bond) in Brazil and everyone speaks in English,” Derbez, who's also an executive producer of the show, said in an interview with NBC News.
