There could be more pain ahead for clean technology stocks — but there may be a buying opportunity for long-term investors, according to JPMorgan. Analyst Bill Peterson said clean technology stocks have seen sentiment become even more challenged following the second-quarter earnings cycle, as investors struggle to digest sliding demand trends, inflation and project delays. Clean technology stocks have fallen about 22% since 2023 began by JPMorgan's calculations, while the technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite has climbed around 21%. "Despite several positive catalysts on the horizon, we think the Clean Tech universe will likely see sentiment worsen before it gets better," Peterson told clients on Friday. However, the average analyst polled by LSEG has a buy rating with an expected upside of nearly 320%.

Sept 20 (Reuters) - Enovix (ENVX.O), a Silicon Valley firm developing new battery technology for consumer electronics such as mobile phones, said on Wednesday it has acquired Korean battery maker RouteJade in a cash-and-stock deal. Enovix said it paid $16.5 million in cash and 6.2 million shares of common stock for RouteJade, which had previously been a supplier to Enovix. Enovix Chief Executive Raj Talluri told Reuters that the deal will help Fremont, California-based Enovix vertically integrate its battery manufacturing operations as it scales up a factory in Malaysia next year. With the deal, "we are able to really take advantage of all the new materials coming out and quickly run them through R&D and manufacturing, so we can change our battery composition quickly," Talluri said. Enovix is developing a technology that can replace part of a battery called an anode, traditionally made out of graphite, with silicon instead.

For more than 100 years, automobiles have been powered by internal combustion engines. Yet around the globe, consumers are slowly shifting to electric-powered vehicles and countries are putting bans of ICE-based engines into place. This disruption in the mobility space also includes automation, like driverless cars and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) applications. Cowen said the company is "well positioned in the growing electrical architecture space as well as with electronic and safety applications." "Deep experience designing purpose-built SoCs [system-on-chip applications] and a decade+ of real world driving data support its positioning," the report said.
