A cadre of blue-state governors is already preparing a litany of political and legal moves to shield their states’ policies and residents from federal actions under Donald Trump's new administration. In California, Gov. A spokesperson for Trump didn’t immediately respond to questions about how Democratic governors are responding to his return to the White House. Phil Murphy pledged to both push back against Trump when necessary, while also seeking out areas for compromise. “If it’s contrary to our values, we will fight to the death,” Murphy said at a Wednesday press conference, mentioning issues such as immigration and reproductive rights.

With so much at stake, CNN has identified 10 races to watch on Tuesday – grouped into buckets that nod to broader themes across the House landscape. Democratic Rep. Abigail Spanberger decided against seeking a fourth term, instead launching a campaign for governor in 2025. Democratic Rep. Jared Golden has crafted a moderate profile by challenging his party on issues ranging from spending to immigration. This year she faces a challenge from GOP state Rep. Gabe Evans, a fellow Mexican American and a former Army helicopter pilot and police officer. GOP Rep. Zach Nunn, an Air Force officer, was first elected in 2022 – defeating Democratic Rep. Cindy Axne by about 2,000 votes.

Census data released on October 17 indicates that New York recorded the highest rate of people moving out of all 50 states. Business Insider calculated each state's net moving rate by comparing the number of people who moved into and out of each state per 1,000 people. The states people move out of the mostOf all 50 states, New York ranks last with a net moving rate of -9.23. But because of its larger population and the greater number of movers into the Golden State, California's net migration rate lands right after Louisiana's. North Dakota — which has about 780,000 residents to New York's 20 million — had the highest net migration rate at 17.55.

Former President Donald Trump’s promises that he’ll win New York are more empty bluster than evidence-based prediction. Two statewide Siena polls have also shown Trump performing better than his 2020 vote share in New York State as a whole. But overall, these races include the most competitive around New York State, and all but the 18th are currently represented in Congress by a Republican. Democrats are not concerned about the top of the ticket, but for those down ballot — where Democrats lost five competitive House races here in 2022 — this election is a chance to earn back what was once theirs. “Progressive state issues like bail reform and congestion pricing remain challenging for Democrats in the New York suburbs,” longtime New York Republican operative Matt Coleman said.

CEO Corie Barry is a no-nonsense heavyweight who mastered the supply chain for Best Buy during the pandemic. As the JPMorgan recent upgrade on Best Buy said, most investors don't realize how awful this period has been for Best Buy. It doesn't hurt, of course that Best Buy has a substantial dividend — 3.68%, down from 4% and 5% when we were buying it.
