The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which went into effect in 2018, overhauled the federal tax code. The legislation roughly doubled the standard deduction, tweaked the individual income tax brackets and trimmed rates. It also applied a $10,000 cap on the state and local tax deduction, and it nearly doubled the estate tax exemption. Luckily, feeling wealthy is less about the money in your bank account and more about your attitude toward the money you already have. In short, your ability to feel wealthy depends on "what your experiences and perceptions on money are." This involves letting go of a well-known number like $1 million and embracing your personal financial journey, she says. Goals such as establishing an emergency fund or improving your credit score, when reached, can help you feel wealthy without having to build a huge net worth. In other words, you don't need $1 million in hand today to feel wealthy — just a plan to grow your money over time.

Gen Zers are less likely to take certain risks, which could be one reason they want more of a social safety net. If you ask many Gen Zers that question, they'll say the current social safety net is insufficient. AdvertisementSixty-five percent of Gen Zers think the government should provide a job to anyone who wants one, according to a Wake Forest survey of 2,000 Gen Zers and millennials conducted with YouGov in 2022. Exactly what, if any, changes the US should make to its social safety net is up for debate. Some young people may look to Europe, where countries generally have a larger social safety net than the US.

SpaceX has filed to relocate its business incorporation from Delaware to Texas. The move follows a Delaware judge's decision to void CEO Elon Musk a $55 billion Tesla pay package. AdvertisementSpaceX, which was incorporated in the famously corporation-friendly Delaware, filed to relocate its business incorporation with the Texas Secretary of State, Bloomberg reported. SpaceX CEO Elon Musk publicly railed against the Diamond State and a judge's decision to void his $55 billion Tesla pay package. "The public vote is unequivocally in favor of Texas," Musk wrote on February 1.

It remains to be seen what Tesla will do about Elon Musk's pay just a few weeks after a Delaware judge voided his $56 billion compensation package, the largest CEO pay package in public corporate history. But Musk has already made some big decisions, including a declaration of a war on the state of Delaware. "Never incorporate your company in the state of Delaware" Musk posted on X shortly after the decision. "Put simply, neither the Compensation Committee nor the Board acted in the best interests of the Company when negotiating Musk's compensation plan. But even as those figures have risen, Musk's compensation would be an "outlier among outliers," said Matteo Tonello, managing director at The Conference Board.

Even when compared with other CEOs, who routinely get paid roughly 200 times more than their typical employees, Elon Musk’s pay package was eye-opening. Critics have argued for years that CEO pay packages are exorbitant. Under Musk’s pay plan, he received a chunk of stock options each time Tesla’s market value rose by $50 billion. General Motors, for example, considers executive salaries at 3M, Boeing, Ford, IBM and other huge companies, and uses complex formulas to determine CEO compensation. Corporate law experts say any new compensation package for Musk will likely be challenged in court unless Tesla's board either resigns en masse or follows a meticulous process to protect shareholders by passing a substantially smaller package.

The value of the change-in-control payout hinges on Aslett's unvested shares and Mercury's stock price. In his resignation letter, Aslett said he was entitled to the change-in-control payout even though that change did not occur. Mercury said its board of directors disputed Aslett's claim to the change-in-control payout. Without it, Aslett would be entitled only to a $2.4 million severance package, a Mercury regulatory filing shows. But the contract stipulates that to be eligible for the change-in-control payout, Aslett also needed to resign for "good reason."

How to shop for life insuranceIf you’re ready to start shopping for a life insurance policy, follow these steps:1. On Wednesday, he dropped a surprise “final collection” (according to a news release) in the form of three short videos by the photographer Steven Klein. The videos came unaccompanied by any statement, and Mr. Ford declined requests for comment. Neither Estée Lauder nor Zegna, which has the license for Tom Ford fashion, could be reached for comment. Still, the collection answered the question that had been hanging over the brand since its sale in November: Would Mr. Ford stay or go? Rumor has it that Peter Hawkings, Mr. Ford’s longtime men’s wear designer, is getting the job.
"The Board fully supports the use of the Goldman Sachs planes for travel, just as it supported the use of private aircraft by previous Goldman Sachs executives," said Tony Fratto, a company spokesman. "Executives at Goldman Sachs have been flying on private aircrafts for decades as it is proven to be the most secure, effective, and cost-efficient solution to meet the extensive travel obligations for CEOs of firms like Goldman Sachs — which is why all of our peer institutions also extensively use private aircraft." John Waldron, president of Goldman Sachs Reuters/Brendan McDermidOccasionally, Solomon and Waldron switch planes, particularly when Waldron flies overseas. Goldman Sachs has a sponsorship deal with pro golfer Patrick Cantlay. "These estimates wildly overstate the cost of such flights to Goldman Sachs and are not an accurate representation," he said.
Students of the Bloom Institute of Technology have filed a class action lawsuit against the school. They say the coding bootcamp, formerly known as Lambda School, advertised false job placement rates. While students have previously taken legal action against BloomTech, this is the first class action lawsuit against it. Former BloomTech students said that the school fell short of its promise with under-qualified instructors and an incomplete curriculum, Insider first reported. Leaked documents also showed that BloomTech's job placement rates were much lower than advertised, Insider previously reported.
Tiny homes, big problems

Beyond their star appeal, low-cost tiny homes like Casitas have real-world utility. The homes have been seized upon as a solution for cities like Los Angeles to house the homeless. They showed off their homes' transportability by hitching several of them to a Tesla and filming drag races between Teslas and trucks that were hooked to trailers carrying the homes. So far, though, after a little more than a year of building, the company has fabricated only about 400 homes. Even if it were churning out thousands of units, Boxabl hasn't yet received the certifications required to sell them in most states across the country.
A decline in morale at the Wall Street firm concerns some Goldman partners. Here are their concerns about CEO David Solomon, who addressed the partners in Miami. CEO David Solomon addressed Goldman Sachs' partners today at the firm's annual partners meeting in Miami. There's little history for Goldman partners taking their concerns directly to the board. Since then, according to someone who has spoken to investors, more shareholders have questioned how long Solomon can last as Goldman's CEO.
Disney's share price spike in 2021 was caused by the same phenomenon — investors charging into streaming services with significant subscriber growth. Activist investor Nelson Peltz spent about 30 minutes Thursday morning speaking with CNBC's Jim Cramer and David Faber in a wide-ranging interview about why he wants a Disney board seat. Now Iger's back, and the Disney board has tasked him with finding a successor in the next two years. It's a far easier case to be made that Disney's board and Iger have consistently bungled succession planning. As Trian noted in its presentation (on Slide 28), the Disney board extended Iger's retirement date five different times between October 2011 and December 2017.

Charles Roe, director of mortgages for banking industry group UK Finance, told lawmakers that lenders were reintroducing mortgage products at lower prices. However, Ray Boulger, senior mortgage technical manager at broker John Charcol, said he was disappointed at the slow progress lenders were making. PRICE FALLS FORECASTAverage two-year and five-year fixed mortgage rates have fallen around 0.2 percentage points from their recent peak, but still remain above 6%, Moneyfacts data shows. "It was 2008 the last time mortgage rates were at 6%, there's a whole cadre of people who have never experienced this...and are very worried," said Joanna Elson, Chief Executive, The Money Advice Trust. The lender has started to reduce fixed mortgage rates for existing customers, while rates for new customers were under review, he added.
Five million people in the UK are going without food to pay household bills, a report says. The Money Advice Trust's report was based on an Opinium survey of 2,000 UK adults, estimated that one in nine UK adults had skipped meals in the last three months "just to keep the lights on." Energy bills in the UK have been rising rapidly since the beginning of the year. According to the report, 20% of adults in the UK said their energy bills had risen by $113 (£100) or more a month since April. Other European residents, such as those in Spain, have said they are cutting back on food and limiting heating in order to pay inflated energy bills.
