SummarySummary Companies Wood privately rejected fourth offer - ApolloWood Group's shares down 2.2%April 4 (Reuters) - Private equity firm Apollo Management has made what it said was a final offer to buy John Wood Group (WG.L) for 1.66 billion pounds ($2.1 billion) in cash, after the British oilfield services and engineering firm rejected four earlier proposals. The 240 pence per share bid represents a premium of about 55% to Wood's closing share price on Feb. 22, the day before it made Apollo's proposals public. Apollo said Wood Group had privately rejected its previous offer of around 1.64 billion pounds, that the firm had made on March 6. Shares in London-listed Wood Group were down 2.2% at 200 pence at 1516 GMT, much lower than the possible offer price, indicating that investors do not expect the deal to go through. Wood separately said it noted the sweetened possible offer from Apollo for the company, and added it continues to engage with its shareholders.

Marc Benioff said he was adopting Oracle's playbook and being mentored by Larry Ellison as he focuses on profitability. Benioff started his career at Oracle at age 23, and Ellison made him into a star executive by age 26. The drama started when Oracle started working on a product that competed with Salesforce, eventually leading Benioff to kick Ellison off his board. And now Benioff is publicly thanking Ellison and his Oracle playbook as Salesforce fends off no fewer than five activist investors, all pressuring the company to improve profitability.
LONDON, Feb 22 (Reuters) - Buyout financier Ares Management Corp (ARES.N) has been offering funds to support a takeover of Manchester United (MANU.N), three sources familiar with the matter told Reuters. It is the latest U.S. asset manager to seek a financing role in the battle for the English soccer club. It was unclear whether Ares has been looking to finance bids for Manchester United through that fund, which has already invested in Spain's Atletico de Madrid soccer club and Inter Miami CF, or another vehicle. Last Friday, Manchester United received indicative offers from bidders including chemicals firm INEOS, led by long-time fan Jim Ratcliffe, and Qatari Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani. INEOS wants to fund an offer without external financing, but could consider bringing in a minority equity partner, one source said.

There are fears that some nations could be struck by hyperinflation, or uncontrolled price rises. The consequences could be disastrous for emerging economies — and have ramifications for the US. While hyperinflation is not about to strike the US, it could affect the American economy nonetheless. Another consequence of that policy was to send money out of emerging economies and back to the US. While Gallagher said hyperinflation wasn't happening yet, the frameworks in place to protect emerging economies from hyperinflation and a debt default were breaking down, leaving countries to fend for themselves.
