CNN —Sometime in late April, the Jewish cemetery in upstate New York where both of my parents are buried was vandalized. For now, the perpetrators remain unknown, though their motivation seems obvious to everyone in the Jewish community, near and far. Having been immersed in my highly autobiographical pages for two semesters, the students ask me questions that are respectful yet probingly intimate. For now, I sit with the German translation students in silence.
