CNN —Africa is home to the world’s largest free trade agreement, in terms of number of countries, territory, and population – the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). According to the Economic Commision for Africa, African countries continue to trade with the rest of the world more than among themselves. Aliko Dangote has been talking about the fact that he needs 35 visas to travel across the African continent. WM: It’s a significant barrier and constraint to intra-Africa trade and intra-Africa investment. I think we can double intra-Africa trade in the next five years, provided we introduce the tools that are required.

Athens, Greece CNN —Where just hours ago there were thick rows of trees, now stumps protrude and smoke still rises from scorched soil. “At some point, the fire went faster than the cars,” Vasilis Xypolitas, mayor of Kifisia municipality on the outskirts of Athens, told CNN. Her car, like scores of others lining the roads that climb out of Athens, was burned. More than 700 firefighters, nearly 200 vehicles and 35 water-bombing aircraft were deployed to battle the blaze, Greek public broadcaster ERT reported. Once the winds and the worst of the blaze abated, residents in Chalandri returned to inspect the damage.

Ms. Harris dropped in on each one, in descending order of price and intimacy, as donors enjoyed peach mimosas and shrimp cocktails before her remarks in the grand ballroom. The Harris campaign is immediately being more intentional at courting this community, dispatching aides to meet with affinity groups representing venture capitalists and the cryptocurrency industry. And she has hired additional fund-raising aides with ties to the Bay Area who helped organize Sunday’s event. Ms. Harris also has connections that Mr. Biden simply does not. Josh Becker, who represents much of Silicon Valley in the California Senate and is close with many industry heavyweights, said he had hosted Ms. Harris in his home two decades ago.

CNN —Kamala Harris has spent much more of her life as a prosecutor than as a senator or vice president – and that is exactly how she is now going to run against Donald Trump. The vice president had expected that to be part of her role making the case for Biden. “As a former prosecutor, Vice President Harris has a lot of experience holding convicted felons accountable,” said Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, a former primary opponent in the 2020 Democratic race who quickly endorsed Harris after the news of Biden’s decision broke. “The prosecutor approach is really about just deconstructing an issue,” Harris told CNN in an exclusive interview after a campaign stop in Las Vegas in April. He was a for-profit college – literally,” a narrator says, as footage of first Harris and then Trump goes by.

But if that suddenly changes, two dozen leading Democratic politicians and operatives told CNN, they can’t realistically see this ending any other way. Still, it’s an idea some Harris backers support, doubting that anyone serious would challenge her, as much chest puffing as there is behind the scenes. Multiple Democratic members of Congress who have called for Biden to go declined on Friday when asked by CNN if they were ready to say they want Harris to be the nominee. “I do believe it has to be the vice president. WCK and Anera, another aid group, have said they will pause operations in Gaza following the incident. Israel maintains there is no limit on the amount of food or humanitarian aid that can enter Gaza, but aid agencies accuse it of deliberately restricting deliveries. Shortly afterwards, American Near East Refugee Aid (Anera), an NGO that delivers aid to the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, Lebanon and Jordan, also suspended its Gaza operations. Along with Turkey, the UAE is the biggest donor of aid to Gaza, according to COGAT, providing 25% of all aid from foreign nations. California, despite its progressive reputation, has never had a woman or an openly LGBTQ governor. Atkins has only ever been elected by voters in San Diego. She later worked at a women's health clinic that performed abortions before getting elected to the San Diego City Council. She had a brief stint as mayor before getting elected to the state Assembly in 2010 and the state Senate in 2016. Newsom has steadfastly refused sweeping tax increases to balance the budget — something Atkins, too, said she would try to stay away from if she were elected governor.

CNN —As the Israel-Hamas conflict continues, there’s growing concern about how the situation may raise the risk of disease and illness in Gaza. There could be more deaths in Gaza from disease and a broken health infrastructure than from bombs and missiles, the World Health Organization has warned. “If the conflict impacts access to safe water, then there may be challenges with waterborne diseases,” she said. In this situation, the risk of death due to disease is much greater than the risk of death due to bombardment,” said Haque, who is not involved in WHO but has studied infectious disease, conflict and war. During the Israel-Hamas conflict, maternity care facilities have been affected by Israeli airstrikes due to evacuations, power outages, and a shortage of medical supplies.

Sept 6 (Reuters) - The United Nations' first global chief heat officer called on Wednesday for political leaders to make firm commitments at November's COP28 climate meeting to stem rapidly rising temperatures in cities, particularly in poorer countries. "In July, we had these crazy heat domes in almost all of the Northern Hemisphere." "It really felt like something was different, it felt like a turning point," Myrivili, the former chief heat officer for Athens, said. Myrivili and national chief heat officers around the world are focused on measures like bringing nature into cities and employing mitigation techniques such as the white reflecting asphalt introduced in Phoenix, Arizona. There are a lot of countries that have a lot of informal housing, a lot of informal labour and a lot of poverty, and that's where heat becomes the real killer."
