Mike DeWine, Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther and other city leaders condemned the neo-Nazis in statements and on social media. But Black locals like Holmes wanted to do more and send a message of solidarity, they said. A group of Black leaders and locals marched through Columbus, Ohio, in a “unity” rally. Dozens of men walked, many side by side, down North High Street, many dressed in all black. He said the atmosphere among Black Columbus residents was one of fear and anxiety, with many wondering if they were safe in the city.

Alistair Berg | Digitalvision | Getty ImagesThe Biden administration's new affordable repayment plan, known as SAVE, may be on hold for months —or longer — amid a slew of legal challenges. The White House says roughly 8 million people are enrolled in SAVE, or the Saving on a Valuable Education plan. Why the SAVE plan is on holdThe SAVE plan has been a magnet for controversy ever since the Biden administration rolled out the program in the summer of 2023, describing it as "the most affordable student loan plan ever." Indeed, the terms of the new income-driven repayment plan are the most generous to date. However, borrowers pursuing student loan forgiveness should still explore their options, said Elaine Rubin, director of corporate communications at Edvisors, which helps students navigate college costs and borrowing.

I knew only that what I was about to do — raise two kids by myself — was going to be hard and humbling. Other parents don't understand what I'm going throughThe only way to truly understand the nuances and challenges of only parenthood is to be an only parent. My heart breaks for my kidsMy kids will always have that space that can only be filled by their other parent. Also, I know that in learning to live with that absence, in learning to move forward even when the path is hard, my kids are learning perseverance. It means that I can't help but be grateful for the fact that I'm here — I get to be here.

Pixdeluxe | E+ | Getty ImagesThe Biden administration announced last week that it would fast-track its plan to deliver student loan forgiveness for certain borrowers in its new repayment plan. "A borrower who is already enrolled in the SAVE plan should see this forgiveness automatically," Rubin said. Generally, only Direct loans qualify for the SAVE plan, including Direct subsidized, Direct unsubsidized and Direct PLUS loans. Once your debt is rolled into a Direct Consolidation Loan, you should be able to access the SAVE plan. "If a borrower currently has a loan in default, the defaulted loan is not eligible to be repaid under a SAVE plan," Rubin said.

These rappers are part of a string of artists who have died by gun violence, with at least one rapper being fatally shot every year since 2018. But experts say the problem is much more complex than that. Elaine Richardson, a professor at Ohio State University who specializes in African American cultures, literacy and hip-hop, said it’s important to prioritize systemic issues when we discuss the killings of rappers. La Rock, who was part of the influential hip-hop group Boogie Down Productions, was fatally shot outside a Bronx apartment complex that summer. “There’s this prevailing notion that rap artists have the most dangerous job, but I don’t subscribe to that.”
