Sarah Paulson, Daniel Radcliffe, Eddie Redmayne and Rachel McAdams are a few of the celebrities nominated this year fueling the excitement for the 2024 Tony Awards. For the third time, Ariana DeBose, who herself has appeared in six Broadway shows, hosts the Tonys, which are being held for the first time at New York’s Lincoln Center. The broadcast promises to be a busy one, with performances from all five contenders for best new musical, as well as the anticipated performances from “Cabaret” (which stars Mr. Redmayne) and “Merrily We Roll Along” (starring Mr. Radcliffe). But before the curtains were raised, here’s what Broadway’s biggest stars (and Anna Wintour) wore to celebrate.

Eddie Redmayne had never seen “Cabaret” when, as a 15-year-old student at Eton, he was first cast as the Emcee, the indecorous impresario of the bawdy Berlin nightclub where the musical is set. So Redmayne did what anyone wondering about the character would do: He watched the 1972 film, and studied Joel Grey’s performance. Redmayne, 42, has played the Emcee three more times — at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe following high school; in London’s West End, winning an Olivier Award in 2022; and now on Broadway, where he has just picked up a Tony nomination. Redmayne had never met Grey, who originated the role on Broadway in 1966 and who went on to win both Tony and Academy Awards as the Emcee. So I asked them to lunch, to talk about a character both have played several times, and about a musical that has continued to move audiences.

When Rebecca Frecknall was a child, one of her favorite things to watch was a televised 1993 London revival of “Cabaret,” which her father had recorded on VHS tape. As the British theater director grew up, she hoped that one day she would stage a version of the musical, in which a writer falls in love with an exuberant and wayward cabaret performer in Weimar-era Germany. In early March, in a Midtown rehearsal room, Frecknall, 37, was preparing to do just that. Her “Cabaret,” which opens in previews at the August Wilson Theater on April 1, is a transfer from London’s West End, where it opened in 2021 to critical acclaim. “I always wanted to direct ‘Cabaret’,” Frecknall said later in an interview.

LONDON, March 6 (Reuters) - From classic tuxedos to shiny jumpsuits, menswear has dazzled on the red carpets this awards season, sometimes even attracting the most attention with eye-catching looks. Singer Harry Styles arrived at the Grammy Awards in a chest-baring sparkling harlequin jumpsuit, while Oscar nominee Barry Keoghan has chosen ensembles in pale blue and red as his style choices for the Golden Globes and British Academy of Film (BAFTA) Awards. While classic suits and tuxedos are still a red carpet staple, menswear now features plenty of variety and bolder choices - vibrant colours, sparkling embroidery or detailing, as fashion favourite, actor Timothee Chalamet has often demonstrated with his non-traditional outfits. Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne has won style accolades for his red carpet choices this awards season, which culminates with Sunday's Oscars. Asked what she thought of men's fashion this award season, Oscar nominee Michelle Yeoh told Reuters last month: "I love it."

Ke Huy Quan has won the Golden Globe for best supporting actor in a motion picture. The “Everything Everywhere All At Once” actor took home the award Tuesday for his portrayal of doting husband and laundromat owner Waymond Wang. “I was raised to never forget where I came from and always remember who gave me my first opportunity,” he said. The role is also significant for the actor personally, as it marks his return to acting after more than two decades working behind the camera. It wasn’t until the 2018 rom-com “Crazy Rich Asians,” which featured an all-Asian cast, that Quan began to reconsider his options, he said in the Roundtable.

CNN —The nominees for the 80th Golden Globe Awards were announced on Monday. Mayan Lopez and Selenis Leyva, two of the stars from “Lopez vs. Lopez,” announced the range of film and television nominees as selected by members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA). Favored Oscars contender “The Banshees of Inisherin” led the film categories, with nominations including best musical or comedy film. It stars Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson. The ceremony, which was not broadcast last January over controversy surrounding the HFPA, will return to NBC on Jan. 10.

CNN —The pressure for 18-year-old actor Kit Connor to come out had been building on social media for months. It is one of the first to center LGBTQ characters — both Nick and Charlie, as well as others in the main cast — geared towards a teen and young adult audience. Rob Youngson/NetflixThe truth about Nelson’s character, as well as Connor’s real-life identity, may be much more nuanced. ‘The Good Nurse’ Review: Hippocratic Hypocrite

As fascinating as they can be to watch, neither Eddie Redmayne nor Jessica Chastain ever has what we usually call chemistry with their co-stars. But isolated brilliance is precisely what helps “The Good Nurse” shine, and it could hardly be otherwise given the story. A true-crime drama at its core, this psycho thriller-cum-police procedural stars both actors as medical practitioners, one of whom is killing people. There’s never much pretense made about who the murderer is. These two are firmly in the friend zone, at least until patients start dropping dead.
Jessica Chastain and Eddie Redmayne attend the premiere of 'The Good Nurse' during the BFI London Film Festival, in London, Britain, October 10, 2022. Based on a book of the same name, "The Good Nurse" centres around ICU nurse Amy Loughren who in 2003 helped uncover the murders committed by her colleague and friend Charles Cullen. And so it felt like a big responsibility," Chastain told Reuters at the movie's London Film Festival premiere on Monday. “The Good Nurse” is directed by Tobias Lindholm, writer of the Oscar-winning Danish film "Another Round", making his English-language feature debut. "The Good Nurse” starts streaming on Netflix on Oct. 26.
