CNN —Seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady has joined the ranks of NFL team owners after his purchase of a minority share of the Las Vegas Raiders, the NFL has announced. Brady’s purchase, which the Associated Press reports is for a 5% ownership stake in the franchise, was approved Tuesday at a meeting of NFL owners in Atlanta. “I’m incredibly humbled and excited to have been unanimously approved as an owner of the Las Vegas Raiders,” Brady said in a post on social media. The purchase agreement with the Raiders is the second partnership between Brady and Raiders owner Mark Davis. In March 2023, it was announced that Brady had acquired an ownership stake in the WNBA’s Las Vegas Aces, also owned by Davis.

On Sunday afternoon in Dallas, Brady made his second start as the lead analyst for Fox’s No. 1 NFL booth — and it went much better for him than that second career start as a quarterback did. 📺: FOX | @NFL pic.twitter.com/lG5BriNNfc — FOX Sports: NFL (@NFLonFOX) September 15, 2024Brady personalized some stuff, and that was winning commentary, including how he felt about facing 35-year-old Saints linebacker Demario Davis when he was a player. He audibly groaned when Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott missed a third-quarter first-down pass in the flat that would have been a touchdown.

CNN —After nearly 47 years, the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals this week exonerated Kerry Max Cook for the 1977 murder of Linda Jo Edwards, declaring him innocent of a crime for which he spent nearly 20 years on death row. Cook was accused of the 1977 rape, murder and mutilation of 21-year-old Edwards in Tyler, Texas. A third trial in 1994 ended with a new conviction and death sentence. The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals reversed the second verdict in 1996, stating misconduct by police and prosecutors. Before a fourth trial in 1999, the state offered Cook a “no contest” plea deal for murder.

CNN —Former American football star Tom Brady has said he regrets how some of the jokes in Netflix show “The Greatest Roast of All Time” affected his children. Brady and Giselle Bündchen, pictured here in May 2018, announced their split in October 2022. Brady said he had a moment of realization that the roast hadn’t turned out the way he thought it would. “It makes you in some ways a better parent going through it because sometimes you’re naïve,” added Brady. At the end of the roast, Brady finally had the chance to defend himself, saying people had asked him why he agreed to do the event.

CNN —House Republicans leading the impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden tried to downplay the importance of an FBI informant whose claims they once championed after he was charged with fabricating foreign bribery allegations involving the president and his son. Special counsel David Weiss charged the FBI informant, Alexander Smirnov, with lying to the FBI and creating false records. The indictment is just the latest setback to House Republicans who are struggling to build momentum to impeach the president. In the wake of the charges, President Joe Biden called out the informant for lying and said Republicans should end their impeachment inquiry. In the wake of the charges, Republicans have seized on the idea that Smirnov was initially presented as a credible witness.

Kansas City Chiefs: Are they the newest NFL dynasty?

The Kansas City Chiefs will appear in their fourth Super Bowl in five seasons when they take to the field in Las Vegas on February 11 against the San Francisco 49ers. And, like the early era of the Patriots, the Chiefs don’t look like they’re stopping any time soon. To the surprise of many, given Smith’s improvement under Reid, Kansas City selected Patrick Mahomes out of Texas Tech. Mahomes has two MVP awards, two Super Bowl wins and two Super Bowl MVPS, while Brady had three Super Bowl titles, two Super Bowl MVPs and no NFL MVP awards. You don’t have to know a screen pass from a field goal to know something about the Kansas City Chiefs.”What do the Chiefs themselves think?

His testimony sheds new light on how his office vetted the tip, and he disputed past Democratic claims that he “closed” the matter without recommending any further scrutiny. However, it doesn’t bolster the GOP narrative that Joe Biden or his son Hunter Biden were offered or accepted a bribe. The informant described his interactions with Mykola Zlochevsky, a Ukrainian oligarch and owner of the energy company Burisma, where Hunter Biden had served on the board. The saga of a once-trusted FBI informant bringing explosive but unverified claims about a presidential candidate is reminiscent of the Christopher Steele debacle in 2016. This time, the political roles are reversed: Republicans are championing the unproven bribery claims, as Democrats try to discredit the material.

Ukrainian 500 hryvnia banknotes and a U.S. 100 dollar banknote are seen in this picture illustration taken in Kiev, Ukraine, October 31, 2016. But concerns that international backing for Ukraine may be waning and few indications that the conflict is close to abating have brought fresh momentum into debt talks, the sources said. Most of Ukraine's bilateral lenders have suspended repayment obligations until 2027 - and some analysts had expected Ukraine might ask its bondholders for a matching extension. FROM DEBT REWORK TO FRESH FUNDSAs part of a debt restructuring, Ukraine would issue new bonds to existing holders once losses on existing debt had been agreed upon. In addition to issuing bonds as part of the debt restructuring, Ukraine also told investors it is weighing options to raise fresh additional financing, the sources said.

The haircuts on debt owed to public and private creditors by 61 of the nations that are already in or are at most risk of debt distress are essential to avoid "cascading defaults," according to calculations from the Boston University Global Development Policy Center and the Debt Relief for a Green and Inclusive Recovery (DRGR) Project. "Without ambitious debt relief, many of the poorest countries don't have a chance," said Kevin P. Gallagher, DRGR project co-chair and director of the Boston University Global Development Policy Center. Reuters GraphicsThe researchers found that some $812 billion in debt across all creditor classes should be in scope for restructuring. To achieve the best outcome, researchers proposed to include instruments that had alleviated previous emerging market debt crises. Ratings agency Fitch said there are currently a record number of sovereign debt defaults, while the International Monetary Fund said 25% of emerging markets and 60% of low-income countries are in or near debt distress.

PHOENIX, Feb 7 (Reuters) - Rob Gronkowski said he would consider retiring with the New England Patriots if he were given the chance, days after owner Robert Kraft publicly made the offer to newly re-retired Tom Brady. Brady picked up six of his seven Super Bowl rings with the Patriots but split with the franchise after the 2019 season to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After a brief flirtation with retirement a year ago, he hung up his cleats for good last week. The four-times Super Bowl champion will team up with Brady again in 2024, when the former quarterback joins him on the network as a lead NFL analyst. "If that was presented, in my case, then that would definitely be something to consider because of just how much that place means to me."

He was twice foiled in the Super Bowl by the New York Giants. Brady racked up yardage but Tampa Bay fired its offensive coordinator, Byron Leftwich. Look again, though, at the piercing final play from that game: A 30-yard Rams field goal, the ball snapped from the Tampa Bay 12-yard line.
